Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated
Senior

Data Engineer

to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines, APIs, and infrastructure to support our data driven applications. You will work closely with cross functional teams, including software engineers, ml engineers and product managers, to ensure seamless data integration, processing, and analytics. This role requires expertise in
Python, SQL, API development

, and a strong understanding of
data modeling

and
ETL processes

.

This position is fully remote, with flexible access to Sydney's Stone and Chalk Scale-up Hub for in-person collaboration and socials. You must be based in Australia (Sydney preferred) and have rights to work full-time in Australia.

What you'll do:

  • Design, develop and maintain robust, scalable
    ETL pipelines

to process and transform data from multiple sources including APIs, database and flat files..
- Design and implement
APIs

using frameworks like FastAPI ensuring seamless integration with data pipeline and frontend applications.
- Develop efficient data models and optimize database performance to support large scale data processing and analytics.
- Implement
data cleaning, validation, monitoring and logging

mechanisms to ensure data accuracy and reliability.
- Deploy and manage

data pipelines and APIs in
AWS

using tools like
Docker and Kubernetes

.
- Collaborate

with product managers, software engineers to shape technical solutions from concept to delivery.
- Document

data pipeline, workflows, APIs for maintainability and knowledge sharing.

What we're looking for:

  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining scalable data pipelines and APIs in
    Python

, with a strong command of
SQL

.
- Solid understanding of
data modeling

, system design and stream/batch data processing patterns.
- Proficient in working with modern
cloud

infrastructure (preferably AWS) and implementing automated
testing

and CI/CD pipelines.
- Skilled at breaking down complex problems and delivering pragmatic, effective solutions in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

What we prefer:

  • Familiarity with Large Language Models and an understanding of RAG, prompt engineering techniques.
  • Experience in data science workflows including feature engineering, model training and evaluation.
