Job Details

Babylon Data is seeking a highly skilled Senior Infrastructure Engineer to support a major government program. This role focuses on designing, managing, and maintaining internet gateways, large-scale data centre networking environments, and hybrid cloud solutions. The position requires expert-level technical capability, independence in decision-making, and the ability to influence ICT strategy and interagency collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, evaluate, and implement infrastructure solutions to meet future demand.
  • Provide expert technical support for project builds, testing, and solution deployment.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation including designs, implementation plans, test plans, and support procedures.
  • Lead change management processes, communicating configuration change impacts.
  • Deliver specialist technical and strategic advice to senior executives.
  • Mentor and support less experienced engineers, sharing subject matter expertise.
  • Research emerging technologies and provide recommendations on suitability.
  • Manage backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability solutions.
  • Oversee patching and maintenance across all technical layers.
  • Administer and operate gateway network infrastructure.
  • Engage and collaborate with service providers and other government agencies.

Essential Criteria

  1. Minimum of five (5) years demonstrated experience in the design, management, and maintenance of internet gateway and/or large-scale data centre networking environments.

Desirable Criteria

  1. Experience designing services with F5/Blue Coat Layer 4–7 switching, load balancing, and proxy systems.
  2. Experience designing and deploying Cisco data centre technologies (ACI, routers, Nexus switches, routing protocols BGP/OSPF/EIGRP).
  3. Experience with Palo Alto firewalls, IPS solutions, VPNs, email, and DNS (Infoblox).
  4. Experience integrating hybrid/public cloud services and maintaining system architecture documentation.
  5. Knowledge of Australian Government information security policies, including the ASD Information Security Manual and Essential Eight.

Technical Skills

  • Cisco Data Centre technologies (ACI, routers, Nexus switches, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP)
  • F5/Blue Coat switching and proxy systems
  • Palo Alto firewalls and IPS
  • VPN technologies, email and DNS (Infoblox)
  • Hybrid/public cloud platforms

Working Arrangements

  • This is a hybrid role based in Canberra.
  • Candidates must attend onsite for a minimum of six (6) weeks before Work From Home Arrangements (WFHA) will be considered.
  • Any WFHA will require a minimum of three (3) days per week onsite
