Senior Gateway / Infrastructure Engineer

We are seeking an experienced
Senior Gateway Engineer
to join a high-performing ICT team. This role will see you designing, implementing, and supporting critical infrastructure solutions across physical, virtual, networking, and cloud platforms. You'll act as a subject matter expert, providing high-level advice, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring the security and stability of enterprise gateway infrastructure.

This is a hands-on role suited to a technically strong professional who can operate with independence, exercise sound judgement, and contribute strategically to ICT direction and capability uplift.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and manage infrastructure solutions to meet current and future demand.
  • Provide expert technical support for project builds, testing, and solution deployments.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed technical documentation including design, implementation, and test plans.
  • Assist in the development of ICT strategies, policies, and operational procedures.
  • Participate in and influence change management processes.
  • Deliver specialist advice to senior executives and mentor less experienced colleagues.
  • Research emerging technologies and make recommendations for adoption.
  • Collaborate with external service providers and government stakeholders to enhance service delivery.
  • Manage backup, high availability, and disaster recovery operations.
  • Oversee the maintenance of patches, support packages, and gateway network equipment.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • 5+ years' experience in the design, management, and maintenance of internet gateways and/or large-scale data centre networking environments.
  • Strong experience with
    F5 / Blue Coat Layer 4-7 load balancing and proxy systems
    .
  • Expertise with
    Cisco technologies
    (ACI, routers, Nexus switches, routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, EIGRP).
  • Hands-on experience with
    Palo Alto firewalls and IPS solutions
    .
  • Knowledge of
    VPN technologies, email and DNS (Infoblox) solutions
    .
  • Exposure to
    hybrid and public cloud services
    .
  • Experience in developing and maintaining system architecture documentation.
  • Familiarity with
    Australian Government information security policies
    , including the ASD ISM and Essential Eight.
