Description

At Doris Blackburn Preschool, we are looking for a Second in Charge/ Educational Leader to inject passion, enthusiasm, experience and leadership into a well-established and much-loved educational setting. The Second in Charge / Educational Leader plays a dual role in both leading high-quality educational practice and supporting the Centre Manager in the overall operations of the Centre. This position requires a balance of on-the-floor engagement with educators and children, as well as off-the-floor responsibilities that ensure Doris Blackburn Preschool operates smoothly and to the highest standards. This role is ideal for an experienced educator with a minimum of two years in a leadership position, who is ready to expand their leadership and operational responsibilities while remaining deeply committed to mentoring, guiding, and supporting the team in everyday practice. Key Responsibilities As Second in Charge / Educational Leader, you will: Leadership & Educational Practice

  • Provide strong practice leadership, guiding educators to deliver high-quality, inclusive programs aligned with the National Quality Standards.
  • Mentor, coach, and inspire educators to ensure programs are developmentally appropriate and responsive to individual needs.
  • Support smooth transitions for children between programs and transitioning into school.
  • Lead and embed the Quality Improvement Plan and School Readiness Funding initiatives in collaboration with the Centre Manager.
  • Promote a shared vision for children's learning and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

Operational Leadership

  • Act as second in charge, supporting the Centre Manager in the daily operations of the service.
  • Oversee rostering and resource management.
  • Provide leadership and problem-solving support, stepping into the Centre Manager's role as required.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, funding, and service requirements.

Educational Leadership & Compliance

  • Work both on the floor and off the floor, balancing hands-on leadership with planning, mentoring, and documentation.
  • Facilitate professional learning opportunities and lead staff engagement sessions.
  • Maintain accurate reporting, ensure all required information is displayed, and uphold policies, procedures, and confidentiality at all times.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor in Education (Early Childhood) or Diploma in Early Childhood Education & Care or equivalent ACECQA approved qualification
  • Awareness of the Child Safe Standards and commitment to upholding the rights and safety of children.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in current Second in Charge role
  • Proven experience in Educational Leader capacity
  • Well-developed knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Learning Framework, National Quality Standards, childhood development and play-based, child - driven pedagogy
  • Current Working with Children Check and/or Victorian Institute of Teaching Registration
  • Current First Aid, CPR, Anaphylaxis & Asthma Certificate
  • Strong knowledge of the EYLF and NQS
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
