About the Role / Are you up for the challenge?

As a Senior Safety Advisor, you will play a critical role in driving a strong safety culture across the B2A Project.

You will provide expert advice, guidance, and leadership to ensure compliance with safety standards, minimise risk, and promote a safe working environment for all employees, subcontractors, and stakeholders.

This role will be based at our site office in Euroa, overseeing our 4 northern sites - Seymour, Tallarook, Euroa and Benalla.

Project Description

Inland Rail is transforming how goods are moved around Australia, connecting Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. This 1,700km fast freight backbone will complete our national freight network - better connecting producers to markets and creating new opportunities for regional businesses, industries and communities.

The Beveridge to Albury (B2A) project is the Victorian portion of the program undertaken along approximately 305 kms of existing northeast rail corridor between Beveridge and Albury. B2A is staged in two tranches. Tranche 1 includes enhancement works across four sites and corridor wide works.

Tranche 2 works will be delivered by John Holland and includes adjustment of track alignments, the provision of new road overbridges and station modifications to enable the safe operation of double-stack freight trains across eight B2A project sites between Wandong and Benalla.

Responsibilities of the role include / What you will do;

Overall responsibility for the role on this high-profile major project includes:

  • Lead the implementation and monitoring of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, and initiatives.
  • Provide specialist advice and support to project teams to ensure compliance with legislative and contractual safety requirements.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments, and develop mitigation strategies where required.
  • Deliver safety training and toolbox talks to promote awareness and understanding of workplace safety.
  • Investigate incidents and near misses, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions are implemented.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate safety documentation, reports, and records.
  • Foster a positive safety culture by engaging with all levels of the workforce and driving continuous improvement.
  • Act as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders on safety matters, including regulatory bodies.

To be successful in this key role, you must have / What we are looking for;

  • Proven experience in a safety advisory role, with a minimum of 3-5 years in a senior safety position, preferably in the construction or infrastructure industry.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Work Health and Safety (WHS) or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of Australian WHS legislation, standards, and codes of practice.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage diverse teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in incident investigations and risk management.
  • High attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • A commitment to fostering a culture of safety, collaboration, and accountability.
