About the role:

This position is a Fixed-Term, Full-time role until 1 July 2026.

Working within a team supporting the Manager, Disability Interface, this role will design, implement and coordinate priority projects that will support early intervention and hospital avoidance for older Victorians. The Senior Project Officer will contribute to the delivery of multiple and complex programs in relation to aged care and the health and aged care reform interface.

The role is a great opportunity to demonstrate and build on the full set of public sector project management skills, including program design and implementation, collaborating and influencing across agencies, driving and reporting on performance, evaluation and managing financial and reputation risk. The role will include exposure to departmental, health service and Commonwealth stakeholders, and provide a good view of health system priorities and issues.

About you:

The Department of Health is seeking an experienced and driven Senior Project Officer to lead and deliver strategic projects that strengthen health outcomes across the community.

In this key role, you will manage a diverse portfolio of complex projects and service development initiatives, providing expert advice across divisions and branches. You will monitor and report on emerging issues and trends, preparing clear and insightful reports, briefs, and recommendations for senior stakeholders.

Success in this position requires a strong ability to influence and negotiate outcomes, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality results within time and budget. You will lead consultations with a wide range of stakeholders - including health services, government agencies, and community partners - to ensure effective collaboration and informed policy development.

The Senior Project Officer will oversee key projects from inception to delivery, including contract management with external providers to achieve measurable outcomes. Building and maintaining productive relationships across the department and the wider health sector will be central to your role, helping to foster a cohesive and partnership-based approach to the implementation of major initiatives.

You will be expected to work flexibly across multiple projects and multidisciplinary teams to meet emerging priorities. The role also requires maintaining accurate records in accordance with legislative and departmental requirements and contributing to a safe and supportive workplace by adhering to occupational health and safety policies.

Mandatory

  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in health or aged care sectors in Victoria and/or the Commonwealth would be advantageous.

Desirable

  • A tertiary qualification in a field related to health, disability, data analysis, project management or public policy would be desirable.
