Early Childhood Teacher

Highfields is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Early Childhood Educator for a three day part-time position (Wed, Thur, Fri) commencing in January 2026 and concluding at the end of the school year. This is a wonderful opportunity to work with some of our youngest Highfielders aged four years of age, alongside a dedicated preschool team and highly supportive parents.

About Us

Highfields is a small independent school catering for children aged 3 to 8 years. The School is unique in its provision of early childhood education. Emphasis is placed on inquiry and creativity as children and teachers work together on interest based projects.

The Role

The position requires a teacher who has a strong understanding of pedagogy and is inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach. We are seeking a teacher who can nurture independent, happy, and confident learners, and is able to develop rich learning opportunities and projects that are responsive to children's ideas, strengths and abilities.

A thorough knowledge of the updated Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF 2.0), and an ability to collaborate and learn with colleagues in research is essential, as is a willingness to bring creative perspectives to this partnership, and to the whole team.

The successful candidate will:

  • have excellent verbal and written communication skills for documenting children's learning.
  • have a research mindset and seek to learn more about the Reggio Emilia approach.
  • collaborate with the preschool team and offer rich pedagogical perspectives.
  • be committed to ongoing professional development, critically reflect on practice, and work alongside other Lead Teachers and the Educational Leader.
  • build and maintain respectful relationships with children, their families and colleagues.
  • lead in the development and implementation of a quality play based early childhood program.
  • hold a Degree in Early Childhood Education.
  • have working knowledge and experience with the updated Early Years Learning Framework  and National Quality Standards.
  • have NESA Accreditation
  • hold a current Working with Children Clearance (NSW).
  • hold a current First Aid certificate.
  • hold current Asthma and Anaphylaxis certificates or be willing to obtain.
  • have an understanding of Child Protection legislation and hold a current, approved Child Protection Training qualification or be willing to obtain.
