About us:

Brisbane Boys' College is an established GPS day and boarding school founded in 1902, dedicated to developing boys into worthy leaders and good citizens. Located just four kilometres from Brisbane's centre, we educate students from Prep to Year 12.

About the Role:

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Laboratory Assistant to support our Science Department. This is a permanent, term time position commencing 20 January 2026.

The Laboratory Assistant will prepare practical materials and maintain laboratory and preparation spaces to enable the effective delivery of high-quality Science education across the College.

About you:

You will be someone who enjoys supporting a busy learning environment and takes pride in maintaining organised, safe and well-functioning laboratory spaces. You will bring a strong focus on accuracy and care in your work, and be comfortable working both independently and as part of a collaborative team. You are approachable, practical, and able to adapt to the day-to-day needs of teachers and students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and set up practical activities for Senior Chemistry, Physics and Middle School Science.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, organisation, and safety of laboratories and preparation rooms.
  • Setting up student practical activities, including trialling new activities.
  • Assisting in preparation for Open Day and for visiting schools and Colleges using BBC laboratory space.
  • Maintaining equipment and maintaining an equipment inventory.
  • Ensuring dangerous and hazardous substances are correctly stored and handled.
  • Assisting the Head of Science, and other staff, on the development and implementation of policies and procedures for laboratory services to the Department.

  • Ability to contribute effectively as part of a team and understand the value of teamwork.
  • Self-motivated, reliable and able to carry out tasks autonomously.
  • Positive attitude and proactive approach.
  • Good time management skills and able to prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Sound interpersonal skills with a range of stakeholders, from students, through to senior management and members of the College community.
  • Willingness to comply with College policies and procedures relating to occupational health and safety, risk management, and confidentiality.
  • Willingness to actively support the College's traditions and Christian ethos.

Qualifications and Experience

  • To be qualified, as a minimum, with an Associate Diploma in Laboratory Techniques.
  • Experience as a High School or University laboratory technician would be beneficial.
  • It is a condition of employment that the incumbent must apply for and obtain a Blue Card for Working with Children.

Mandatory requirements

  • Adhere to the PMSA Code of Conduct.
  • Comply with College policies, procedures and training requirements, including those related to occupational health and safety, risk management, child protection, and confidentiality.
  • Positively support the College's traditions and Christian ethos.
  • Hold a current blue card or be eligible to obtain a blue card for working with children.
