Safety and Quality Officer

New Directions Australia is a market leading wholesaler and manufacturer of essential oils, natural and organic skin care, cosmetics, and wellbeing products. We also sell high end packaging to the cosmetic and fashion industries from our contemporary office and showroom in Marrickville.

About the Role:

We have an exciting and newly created role of Safety and Compliance Officer for New Directions Australia in our Sydney Head Office.

This dynamic role will see you being instrumental in supporting effective implementation of WHS strategies whilst providing administrational assistance and influencing positive behaviours throughout our operations.

Responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

• Manage WHS policies and procedures.
• Assist appropriate departments in handling and storage of hazardous chemicals.
• Manage quarterly Safety meeting, chair safety meeting and circulate the meeting notes.
• Responsible for the promotion of health & safety protocols throughout the organization.
• Ensure sustainable safety performance through effective continuous improvement proposals.
• Identify and ensure WHS legislation compliance.
• Identifying hazards and assessing risks and opportunities and keep updated the Risk Assessment Register
• Manage & develop WHS consultation culture and awareness.
• Investigating accidents and incidents, identifying root causes, and making recommendations to prevent future occurrences.
• Participate in monthly toolbox meetings and promote safety awareness.
• Accurate completion and submission of workers compensations claim documentation including coordination of return to work and rehabilitation plans.
• Ensuring that all employees are trained in safety procedures, and monitoring compliance with safety regulations.
• Maintain NDA First Aid Treatment & Injury Reporting system, following up internal Injuries and submit report for discussion with responsible/manager of the area.
• Follow monthly tracking of injury indicator.
• Conduct WHS Internal audits plantwide to identify improvement opportunities.
• Ensure standard procedure exists for all designated WHS tasks and that these are controlled and available for use.
• Getting advice from a WHS specialist if required.
• Liaise with QC, R&D, Sales, Purchasing, Dispatch, Manufacturing and Filling departments for any HS improvement.
• Assist Quality/Compliance co-ordinator with allocated administration tasks.
• Any other duty delegated by management to improve the WHS systems.

We are seeking an individual who has the following skills and experience:

• Tertiary qualifications in Safety, Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or related field.
• Knowledge in safety systems and continuous improvement.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience in a cosmetic/pharma/food manufacturing environment.
• Strong, written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent attention to details and problem-solving skills.
• Well organised and detail oriented.
• Ability to work autonomously.
• Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
• Can-do attitude and self-motivated
• Strong team player
• Strong 'MS Office' skills, including sound understanding of Excel.
