We're looking for an Associate Principal to lead our new Yr7 – 9 team at The Y School in Mirrabooka, (Perth, WA), with a view to expand the school across multiple locations in Western Australia.

Our School:

At The Y School, we aim to uphold the Y's values of Respect, Honesty, Responsibility & Caring through providing high-quality educational experiences for all of our students. As a CaRE (Curriculum & Re-Engagement) School, we're focussed on working with students at their point of need. Through consultation and collaborative approaches, we formulate strong Individual Education Plans, providing access to future goals via a personalised combination of WACE subjects, Endorsed Programs, School-Based Traineeships, Vocational options and a university bridging course. Our main focus is to assist students to re-engage with education in a way that makes sense to them, dismantling the barriers and creating a chance for them to flourish.

Our Yr campus opened in Mirrabooka in February 2022. Due to considerable demand, we're working towards opening our Yr7 - 9 campus in 2026. Everything will be new Refurbishment works are about to commence with a brand-new fit out including an open plan area, purpose-built classrooms, kitchen and counselling rooms. We're planning to accommodate 40 to 60 students to start with, which will incorporate two learning hubs. Each hub will be capped at 30 students, having a Teacher, four Education Assistants and one Youth Worker per hub.

The Y School 7-9 pathway is developed and delivered in partnership with Mastery Schools Australia, focussing on the Science of Learning.

The curriculum at our Yr7 – 9 Campuses will be delivered through a combination of Direct Instruction and STEAM lessons, providing students the opportunity to develop their knowledge in Literacy and Numeracy, as well as explore their passions across a range of subjects within the WA Curriculum.

Your Impact:

As Associate Principal you'll lead the coaching, development and support of the staff across our Year 7 – 9 campuses, starting with our flagship Mirrabooka space. Using our 'Y School Strategy' and under the guidance of the Executive Principal, and the Y WA leadership team, alongside your knowledge of high-quality teaching and learning in Direct Instruction (and STEAM), you'll ensure the incredible culture of the Y School is maintained and supported, as we move forward with our Year 7 – 9 Model. You'll be responsible for coaching and mentoring campus staff in delivering the model, instructional practices and high-quality teaching and learning. You'll support the Year 7 – 9 Deputy Principals in maintaining positive behaviour across the campuses and ensure safeguarding strategies are employed consistently and within the Y WA Safeguarding Framework.

As a part of the Y School Leadership Team, you'll work closely with the Executive Principal to maintain a whole school culture where all staff and students feel safe and valued. You'll have varied experience with students who are identified as disengaged or at educational risk, allowing you to adapt strategies and support staff in how to deliver the curriculum content successfully in the CaRE School environment. You'll have experience in working within leadership teams in educational environments, and understand how trauma, mental health and cognitive diagnoses can impact the learning of young people.

You'll be great in this role if you…

• Have Full Registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA)
• Hold a Tertiary qualification in Education or Teaching that is recognised in Western Australia
• Have Post Graduate qualification/s in Education Leadership / Business Management (highly regarded but not essential)
• Have experience in successful strategic leadership in an educational setting
• Seek to maintain a status of Lead in the AITSL standards and fully understand their application in daily practice
• Have knowledge regarding school budgeting and legislative requirements (CARE School knowledge is desirable but not essential)
• Are known for your coaching and mentoring skills
• Have experiential knowledge of Direct Instruction
• Can obtain a current National Police Check
• Hold a current Drivers License and Working with Children Check
• Are seeking to work for a WA based NFP making a real difference to student's lives by demonstrating real wraparound service provision with unwavering focus and commitment to safeguarding our Young People
