We are seeking an experienced and motivated Policy Officer to join the Office of Non-State Education.

The ideal candidate will be a confident policy generalist who can undertake research and policy analysis to inform evidence-based decision-making and work collaboratively with the non-state schooling sector and the Non-State Schools Accreditation Board to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality non-state schooling. Some examples of our work include: partnering across the department and the non-state schooling sector to develop and consult on key initiatives, such as reform to the regulation of non-state schools and agreed approaches to policy issues; and designing and implementing governance arrangements to ensure effective and timely responses to review recommendations, reporting on non-state school activities as required by legislation, and managing complex complaints.

Your Responsibilities
As a Principal Advisor, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Participating in research and analysis of policy issues, including the collation and analysis of data and review of literature.
  • Drafting and preparing briefs, submissions to government and supporting documents to assist senior executives.
  • Preparing and overseeing the development of responses to Ministerial correspondence;
  • Collaborating with officers across the department and external to develop proposals and policy positions.
  • Managing a small team and ensuring the effective and timely responses.
  • Providing secretariat support to projects and committees.
