About the Client

Our client is a major federal agency undertaking a multi-year transformation of its core infrastructure, data, and technology landscape.

They're seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer (Backups) to help deliver enterprise-grade backup, recovery, and resilience solutions across hybrid on-premise and Azure cloud environments.

About the Role

Reporting into the Infrastructure Manager, you'll join the Core Infrastructure Team responsible for supporting, securing, and modernising the client's compute, storage, and network environment.

You'll play a key role in maintaining backup and recovery operations, ensuring data integrity and business continuity across a range of critical platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain Veritas (Cohesity) NetBackup solutions
  • Configure and manage backups for SQL Server, Exchange, Linux, Oracle, and SharePoint environments
  • Deploy and administer Cohesity Alta data protection in Microsoft Azure, including SaaS protection
  • Monitor and troubleshoot backup jobs, ensuring reliability and performance
  • Conduct backup validation and disaster-recovery testing on a regular cadence
  • Maintain detailed documentation of backup architecture and recovery procedures
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, database, and application teams to ensure complete backup coverage
  • Support project delivery and participate in after-hours maintenance as required

Skills & Experience

  • Proven hands-on experience with Veritas (Cohesity) NetBackup across multiple platforms
  • Experience configuring Cohesity Alta data protection in Azure
  • Strong system administration background across Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, ADFS, Linux, VMWare, and Microsoft Azure
  • Scripting and automation using PowerShell or Python
  • Knowledge of hybrid-cloud and virtualised environments
  • Understanding of ACSC Essential 8, ISM, and PSPF security standards
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and documentation skills
  • Existing Baseline Security Clearance (or higher) highly regarded

Preferred Qualifications

  • Cohesity Certified Engineer and/or Microsoft Azure certifications
  • Experience integrating backup and recovery in hybrid cloud ecosystems
  • Familiarity with data classification and retention policies
