Perth, Western Australia Western Work Force Pty Ltd Full time $80,000 - $120,000 per year
About Our Client:

Our client is a well-established civil contractor based in Western Australia, delivering a range of earthworks and plant-based services across metropolitan and regional projects.

They operate a sizeable fleet of heavy plant and prioritise safety, compliance and equipment reliability.

About Us:

We are an Australian-owned recruitment company and a market leader in providing staffing solutions across various industry sectors. With deep industry insights and a commitment to excellence, we partner with top-tier clients to deliver highly skilled professionals. Our focus is on aligning the right talent with the right opportunities, ensuring our candidates thrive in dynamic work environments.

Role Overview:

We're seeking a qualified Workshop Supervisor / Leading Hand role for an established civil operator (Perth metro base, regional work as required). This is a hands-on leadership position — you'll maintain and coordinate servicing for a mixed fleet of earthworks and profiling plant, manage the workshop, mentor trades staff / apprentices and help reduce downtime across projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the day-to-day workshop operations: schedule and complete preventative maintenance and breakdown repairs for heavy diesel plant, trucks and profiling equipment.
  • Perform advanced diagnostics and reparations on diesel engines, gearboxes, final drives, hydraulic systems, PTOs and transmissions.
  • Oversee fault finding, rebuilds and component replacement (pumps, valves, hoses, cylinders, turbochargers, alternators, starters, air systems).
  • Supervise, mentor and roster onsite mechanics and apprentices; provide on-the-job training and competency sign-offs.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, service records and asset histories; ensure prestart inspections and plant tagging are completed.
  • Manage spare-parts inventory and liaise with suppliers to minimise downtime and control costs.
  • Coordinate with site supervisors and operations to prioritise plant returns to work and support project schedules.
  • Ensure workshop compliance with WHS, Safe Work Method Statements, confined space and permit procedures; lead toolbox talks and hazard inspections.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives: reliability programs, failure analysis and plant lifecycle planning.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
  • Trade qualification (Heavy Vehicle Diesel Mechanic / Mechanical Trade Certificate) or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5+ years' experience working on heavy earthmoving plant and heavy-rigid/prime mover fleets; previous HD mechanic experience is essential.
  • Proven experience in a senior technician / lead hand or supervisory capacity (rostered crews, mentoring apprentices).
  • Competent with diagnostic tools, workshop management and parts ordering systems.
  • Current Australian Heavy Vehicle or Light Rigid licence as required; manual transmission experience preferred.
  • Current Australian driver's licence.
  • Strong communicator with a practical, hands-on leadership style and a safety-first attitude.
What We Offer:
  • A stable role with a respected civil business that operates across metropolitan and regional WA.
  • Hands-on supervisory role where your technical leadership will directly reduce downtime and improve fleet reliability.
  • Competitive hourly rate or salary (based on experience), tools allowance and opportunities for overtime.
  • Support for training, upskilling and trade development within the workshop.
  • A safety-focused workplace with well-maintained plant and long-term project pipelines.
How to Apply:

If you meet the above criteria and are ready to lead a busy heavy-vehicle workshop supporting earthworks and asphalt operations, please email your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your relevant heavy-plant experience and availability to
