Purposeful work with genuinely good people. That's refreshing.
As the Deal Execution & Commercial Lead, you will work within AusNet's growing Energy Storage business, supporting Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects from development through to Financial Investment Decision (FID).
The role involves structuring and negotiating commercial transactions to ensure they align with AusNet's risk and return parameters, enabling the rollout of transmission-scale batteries. These batteries are important for creating a sustainable energy future by providing reliable and efficient storage of renewable energy, supporting Victoria's energy transition and helping achieve its legislated net zero targets by 2045.
With a 3/2 Hybrid split (office / WFH), this role is based in Southbank, Victoria. This role will report to the Senior Deal Execution & Commercial Manager (BESS) and is part of the wider Storage, Distributed Energy, Development & Future Networks team.
This role will deliver real outcomes – you will:
- Lead or support commercial execution for BESS projects, aligning deal parameters to reach FID within agreed timeframes.
- Negotiate, or support the negotiation of, contracts (which may include offtake, EPC, O&M, OEM supply, land, grid and other arrangements) to protect AusNet's interests while delivering value for counterparties.
- Prepare, or assist in the preparation of, investment business cases and executive, board, and shareholder approval papers and presentations.
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external counterparties.
You don't need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:
- 6-10+ years of experience negotiating or advising on complex commercial arrangements, with a strong track record of driving deals to close.
- Strong technical skills, including legal and financial literacy, with the ability to translate analysis into clear commercial or contractual positions. Deep expertise in legal advisory (preferably in energy or infrastructure), business case development, or financial modelling will be highly regarded.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, including at the executive level.
- High attention to detail, analytical mindset, organised under pressure, resilient and adaptive.
