Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced
Senior Infrastructure Engineer
to provide high-level technical expertise and support for a major
Network Modernisation Project
within a Tier 1 government agency.

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining, supporting, and enhancing the organisation's enterprise network and cloud infrastructure. This includes providing advanced technical guidance across
Fortinet SD-WAN, FortiGate Firewalls, and Azure Network Virtual Appliances
, as well as contributing to the ongoing optimisation of secure hybrid cloud environments.

You will act as a senior escalation point for complex network and infrastructure issues, ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of critical ICT systems. This role also involves collaborating closely with internal stakeholders, vendors, and delivery teams to deliver quality outcomes in line with government assurance and security standards.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to work within a high-performing ICT environment, where you'll apply your expertise to strengthen network resilience, modernise infrastructure, and contribute to secure and efficient technology delivery across the agency.

What We're Looking For:

  • 10+ years' experience in
    network and infrastructure engineering
    , with recent experience supporting complex government ICT environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise with
    Fortinet technologies
    , including SD-WAN, FortiGate Firewalls, FortiAnalyzer, and FortiManager.
  • Strong experience with
    Azure Cloud Infrastructure
    , including configuration of Network Virtual Appliances (NVA), routing, and hybrid connectivity.
  • Proven experience in designing, deploying, and troubleshooting
    secure network solutions
    across on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Proficiency with
    network documentation tools
    such as Microsoft Visio for design and architecture artefacts.
  • Experience conducting
    network mapping, capacity analysis, and performance monitoring
    .
  • Familiarity with
    ITIL service management processes
    and government security compliance frameworks.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, vendors, and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear technical documentation and reports.
  • Tertiary qualification in
    Information Technology, Networking, or related discipline
    .
  • Must be an
    Australian citizen
    , holding or eligible to obtain a
    Baseline or NV1 security clearance
    .
  • Work location:
    Canberra, ACT (Hybrid – on-site + remote flexibility).
