Azure Infrastructure Engineer

Location – Sydney preferred

We are seeking an experienced Azure Infrastructure Engineer to join our IT Operations team. You will own the management of the Azure Cloud platform and related services, leveraging secure DevOps practices with a focus on security and automation to provide scalability of the infrastructure platform and services.

You will contribute to the IT strategic road map supporting the business objectives and play an integral role in the design, development and implementation of the network, infrastructure, and cybersecurity strategy. You will also be required to assist in the broader IT function's objectives in respect of security, applications, data and business support.

What you will be doing


• Designing, developing and securing the Azure platform and associated services to meet best practice and security requirements, ensuring scalability and implementing suitable guardrails to ensure cost control and performance.


• Ensuring security of the infrastructure platforms and associated services are regularly hardened, patched, maintained and updated, identifying risks early to determine mitigation strategies.


• Leveraging appropriate tools to monitor Azure cloud, network and infrastructure components, proactively identifying and addressing potential issues.


• Designing, implementing, and maintaining Azure-based infrastructure to support CI/CD pipelines for Infrastructure Deployment and Configuration Management, leveraging IaC through tooling such as Azure DevOps, Bicep, ARM or Terraform.


• Working closely with other IT Teams and business units to understand their needs and facilitate capabilities with a focus on automation.


• Providing day to day technical leadership and support, including Microsoft Windows Server IaaS Workloads, Azure Active Directory (AAD), Azure Storage, Azure Key Vault, Azure Firewall, Azure Defender, Azure Security Centre, Azure Sentinel, Azure Policy etc., following ITIL best practices including Incident, Change and Problem Management.


• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a collaborative environment and supporting continuous development.


• Creating and maintaining documentation for standard operational practices (SOPs), configuration, processes and troubleshooting that aligns to operational standards.

Your background


• Relevant tertiary IT qualifications and/or industry experience and certifications.


• Solid experience in a similar senior role with proven experience configuring, securing and managing Azure IaaS, PaaS and SaaS services.


• Knowledge of Financial Services requirements, using standards and frameworks such as Essential8, NIST and CIS.


• Proven experience implementing and supporting Azure services including Azure Active Directory (AAD), Azure Storage, Azure Networking, Azure Key Vault, Azure Firewall, Azure Defender, Azure Intune, Azure Security Centre, Azure Sentinel, Azure Policy etc.


• Demonstrated experience administering, supporting and troubleshooting Microsoft Windows (IaaS) environments, Active Directory, File/Print, MSSQL and Internet Services, such as zScaler.


• Extensive experience with developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, leveraging tools including Azure DevOps, Terraform, Bicep, ARM Templates etc to optimise infrastructure deployments, providing configuration management and continuous deployment capabilities.


• Experience with cloud recovery tooling and techniques, such as backup and restore, disaster recovery planning and business continuity strategies, to ensure resilience and data protection within Azure Cloud.


• Expertise in deploying and configuring Azure cloud system monitoring, performance optimisation and troubleshooting tools such as Azure Monitor to proactively identify and remediate potential issues.


• Advanced skills with automation and scripting (PowerShell, Bicep, Terraform, Python etc).


• Good understanding of managing Microsoft 365 and working with Intune.


• Thorough understanding and experience with ITIL processes, including incident, change, problem and configuration management.


• Demonstrated ability to work in a rapid-moving, high paced organisation.


• Must be proactive, self-motivated and have a passion for learning and continuous improvement.
