About Us
At Sandbar, we deliver modern beachfront dining with quality and atmosphere. Located on the Esplanade at Surfers Paradise, we offer breakfast favourites, gourmet burgers, seafood, steaks, cocktails, an expansive drinks menu and fantastic views.
We're open 7 days and operate a full-service kitchen across multiple times of day: breakfast, lunch, dinner, plus functions & events.
What We're Looking For
A driven, experienced Sous Chef to support the Head Chef in running our fast-paced, high-volume kitchen. Key responsibilities will include:
- Assisting in menu development and execution — maintaining quality, consistency, and presentation across all dishes
- Managing food prep, supervising kitchen staff; stepping in across all stations as needed
- Ensuring inventory, stock control, ordering, and waste minimization are handled efficiently
- Maintaining high standards of food safety, cleanliness, and organisation
- Working alongside front of house and events teams for functions and special events
You Have:
- Prior Sous Chef / senior cook experience in a full-service, high volume food outlet (restaurants, pubs, or beachfront dining a plus)
- Strong leadership qualities; ability to assist with managing & training team members
- A good palate and eye for detail when it comes to food flavour and plating
- Excellent organisational / time management skills, and ability to adapt quickly under pressure
- Understanding of food cost, labour cost controls and kitchen KPIs
