First Nations Healing Incorporated is an award-winning, not-for-profit organisation specialising in culturally safe and trauma-informed support for Aboriginal women and children impacted by domestic and family violence. With a proud history spanning over 50 years, we deliver a comprehensive range of services, including—but not limited to—core and cluster models, transitional and supported housing, and outreach programs. The organisation is governed by a Board comprised of Aboriginal community members, ensuring culturally grounded leadership and accountability.
Position Summary:
The Family Practitioner will be responsible for providing culturally appropriate, trauma informed and responsive direct client service provision to Aboriginal families experiencing the impacts of domestic and family violence across core and cluster, motels and residential homes. To assist families to address family violence concerns and build capacity.
Key Responsibility:
· Engage high risk Aboriginal families and encourage participation in the service and build a shared commitment to keeping families safe.
· Facilitate identification of needs, risks and work with families to develop achievable family wellbeing / child safety plans based on circumstances and aspirations; ensuring plans are user friendly and measurable.
· Contribute to regular team and case review meetings to ensure that individual client needs are met.
· Ensure that families receive holistic support that is appropriate to their needs, including brokering pathways and referring into other services where appropriate
· Undertake regular home visits and provide practical in-home support to build positive parenting skills, create nurturing environments, establish household management routines and address areas of concern.
· Provide professional child centred and family focussed casework that builds confidence, capacity and support families to access services and sustain involvement to address issues, improve circumstances and meet needs.
· Work in ways that enable families to be central to decisions and to own their journey of change and growth.
· Assist parents/carers in their understanding of the impact of domestic violence in order that they might respond appropriately to the emotional needs of children and young people.
· Contribute to the management of complex cases by maintaining a case load when required
· Deliver relevant activities and programs that support positive outcomes for clients
· Attendance at multi agency integrated forums, e.g., Family Safety Meetings, Case Conferences
Essential:
· Certificate 4 in a recognised and relevant qualification
· Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of social and emotional and wellbeing issues affecting Aboriginal peoples
· You must hold a current South Australian Driver's License or a license which permits you to drive in South Australia.
- Successful candidates will be required to clear and maintain probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check (Police Clearance), Working with Vulnerable People Check and Working with Children Check (applicants need to hold a current WWCC to apply).
