About the Role – IT Operations Team Lead

In this hands-on leadership role, you'll oversee a high-performing team of five, responsible for the stability, performance, and security of the IT Infrastructure & Networks that underpins business operations. You'll drive operational excellence, resilience, and continuous improvement across both on-premises systems and cloud platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor an IT Operations team (5 direct reports) to deliver secure, reliable IT services
  • Administer and optimise Windows Server (2016–2022), Hyper-V virtualization, and Azure infrastructure
  • Manage switching, routing, VPNs, VLANs, and Fortinet firewalls for network performance and security
  • Oversee Microsoft Entra ID, Exchange, O365, SQL environments, enterprise backups, and disaster recovery
  • Ensure system health through patching, monitoring, optimisation, and security uplift initiatives
  • Drive automation and efficiency using PowerShell, Power Apps, or similar tools
  • Deliver infrastructure projects aligned with organisational priorities and innovation strategy
  • Maintain compliance with governance, security standards, and audit requirements

What You'll Bring

  • Proven leadership experience managing a small IT team (2+ years)
  • 5+ years' experience in IT operations, infrastructure, or systems administration
  • Expertise in Windows Server, Hyper-V, Azure, and enterprise networking (switching, routing, firewalls)
  • Strong practical experience with Fortinet firewalls or similar technologies
  • Proficiency in automation and scripting (PowerShell, Function Apps, etc.)
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Relevant certifications (Microsoft, Cisco, ITIL, etc.) highly regarded
