Organisation/Entity: NSW Trains
Job category: Projects
Job location:
Sydney, NSW, AU, 2000
Job reference number: 101829
Employment type: Fixed Term Full-Time
Salary range: $ $
You're accountable for your actions and those of your team and you collaborate and support others to consistently deliver on your promises.
You take health and safety as seriously as we do. You're passionate about being part of a team that delivers impactful health and safety outcomes so that everyone goes home safely every day.
In this role, you'll:
Join NSW TrainLink as a Senior Safety Investigator, where you'll lead high-risk, complex investigations - ranging from derailments to threats to passenger safety - and play a key role in protecting our people and the community. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Safety Investigations, your work will directly shape NSW TrainLink's safety systems and processes, and contribute to a strong, learning-focused safety culture.
You'll take ownership of major safety investigations from initial response through to final recommendations, ensuring reports meet the highest standards before executive review. As a senior member of the team, you'll coach and support other investigators, oversee investigation processes, and ensure alignment with national standards and regulatory requirements.
You'll work closely with frontline leaders to guide local investigations and embed learnings across the organisation. Collaboration is central to the role - you'll engage with stakeholders to ensure a consistent and trusted approach to safety investigations that help build trust and confidence across TrainLink, and with external partners and Regulators.
Beyond investigations, you'll lead critical safety communications, from lessons learned and incident reviews shaping key messages across the business. Through evidence-based insights and clear communication, you'll drive meaningful, organisation-wide safety improvements.
This is a temporary fixed term, full time opportunity for up to 13 months.

About you
You're an experienced investigator with a sharp analytical mind. You approach complex issues with balanced judgement and integrity, navigating competing prioritises to uncover the facts that matter most. Your communication - both written and verbal - is clear, persuasive, and tailored to your audience, ensuring your insights are understood and actionable.
Your strong knowledge and experience in safety investigations, preferably within rail, transport, or other high-risk industries, enable you to navigate complex scenarios with impartiality and focus on uncovering the facts that truly matter. You've also demonstrated the ability to lead and coach others in investigation methodologies and just culture principles.
You have a solid understanding of Rail Safety National Law and relevant WHS legislation, and qualifications in safety, WHS, risk management, or rail operations are a plus. You thrive on purpose, embrace accountability, and know how to turn insights into meaningful action.
