Guidance Officer (with Teaching Load) – Carlisle Adventist College, Mackay QLD

Carlisle Adventist College, in beautiful Mackay, Queensland, is a Christian co-educational Prep to Year 12 College owned and operated by Seventh-day Adventist Schools (Northern Australia) Ltd.

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Guidance Officer (with a teaching load) to join our dedicated team in 2026.

This is a full-time position combining student wellbeing and counselling responsibilities with a reduced teaching load in the applicant's area of expertise.

About the Role

The successful applicant will play a key role in promoting student wellbeing, resilience, and success across our Prep–Year 12 community. Working collaboratively with leadership, teachers, parents, and external agencies, you will provide guidance and support to help students flourish academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing individual and small-group counselling and wellbeing support for students.

  • Assisting staff in developing proactive approaches to student behaviour, engagement, and emotional regulation.

  • Supporting student pathways, career advice, and subject selection processes.

  • Working alongside the College leadership team in pastoral care, child safety, and wellbeing initiatives.

  • Teaching a reduced load (negotiated based on applicant qualifications and timetable needs).

  • Actively contributing to the Christian mission and spiritual life of the College.

About You

The ideal candidate will be a compassionate Christian educator who demonstrates warmth, professionalism, and strong interpersonal skills. You will have the ability to connect with young people and families, and to offer practical, faith-centred guidance.

You will have:

  • A Bachelor of Education or equivalent teaching qualification.

  • Additional qualifications or training in Guidance, Counselling, or Psychology (or working toward such).

  • Eligibility for registration with the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT).

  • Experience providing counselling or guidance services within an educational setting.

  • A clear commitment to child safety, confidentiality, and ethical practice.

  • A willingness to uphold and actively support the Seventh-day Adventist Christian ethos of the College.

Salary Range: $88,000 – $122,000 (depending on experience and qualifications, excluding superannuation).

Applicants must have the legal right to work in Australia and hold a current Working With Children Check (Blue Card).
