About Us
With branches in Rockhampton, Mackay and Barcaldine and a site office in Emerald, the Transport and Main Roads Program Delivery and Operations (PDO) Central Queensland Region (CQ Region) looks after 9076km of state-controlled roads and about 1510km of the National Road Network. This role will contribute to the development and delivery of the Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program (QTRIP).
The CQ Region covers an area of about 604,824km2, approximately 34.9% of Queensland. Its landscape ranges from beautiful coastal areas adjoining the Great Barrier Reef and rainforests to the rugged outback with breathtaking rock formations. The region has an estimated residential population of 422,141 people. The Central Queensland Region offers a relaxed lifestyle with an abundance of spectacular and unique tourist attractions, including the beautiful Southern Great Barrier Reef (fishing, swimming and snorkelling), magnificent beaches, pristine national parks and rainforest's, the bustle of mining, agricultural, cattle and sheep producing towns across Central Queensland.
The Role
The purpose of the Senior Cultural Heritage Officer is to provide guidance and expertise in cultural heritage (Indigenous and non-Indigenous) related to the delivery of road and infrastructure works ensuring projects are not delayed while remaining compliant with state and federal legislation. You will provide cultural heritage advice to the department on road and infrastructure projects. You will identify sites of cultural heritage significance / project operational risks and lead the management of these risks.
The role includes undertaking cultural heritage site surveys which may involve walking long distances in varying weather conditions (for example, hot and humid). A key component of the role will require you to build and strengthen relationships between TMR and registered Aboriginal parties. Mandatory Qualifications And Conditions
- Possession of Bachelor of Archaeology, Anthropology, Social Science, Heritage Management, Heritage Conservation or related discipline.
- A current Class 'C' Drivers Licence
Desirable
- Experience applying Queensland cultural heritage legislation.
- Experience in linear and/or transport infrastructure.
- Membership of professional bodies for example, Australian Anthropological Society (AAS), Australian Archaeological Association (AAA)/ ICOMOS, or related discipline.
