Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and families across the Mount Isa region? As part of our Intensive Bail Initiative and Youth Support Service Team, you'll be part of a wrap-around service that supports the families of young people who have come into contact with the youth justice system. In this varied and challenging role, you'll help give families the tools they need to thrive. We understand that in developing effective working partnerships it is a 'two-way street', so we offer a practice model that respectfully engages clients and provides peer support for the practitioners.
54 reasons is Australia's leading child rights organisation - no ordinary not-for-profit.
Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, we're here to make sure that children and young people have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.
With the child's voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities. From our programs to our support services - this is the place to realise your purpose.
A place to make a difference:
In this full-time, maximum term opportunity (through to end of March 2026, with strong potential for extension), you'll join our Intensive Bail Initiative and Youth Support Service team based in Mount Isa in a mentoring role. Reporting to the Team Leader, you'll work closely alongside external stakeholders to increase and prioritise the safety and wellbeing of children, and will be contributing to our ultimate goals of assisting young people to meet the conditions of their bail, decreasing the number of children and young people being remanded in custody, and reducing youth reoffending.
You will make a difference by:
- Driving quality program planning and implementation
- Coaching, training and developing colleagues to increase skill and competency to enable high quality service delivery
- Working in collaboration with government and non-government services to work towards common goals to meet the complex needs of participants
- Coordinating staff caseloads and program logistics, monitoring and evaluation, risk management and child protection
- Assisting in recruitment, selection, orientation of staff and training processes
- Maintaining a caseload of high-risk clients and families
- Supporting the completion of internal and external quarterly reports on time and to a high standard
A place to feel valued:
Your expertise in working with children and young people will be invaluable. You're highly adaptable with strong levels of initiative, and you're able to confidently assess risk and develop comprehensive case management plans according to individual need.
This role requires:
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant field and/or significant experience working in a similar service
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and families
- Strong understanding of the Youth Justice system, orders and bail obligations
- Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to coach and develop a team, as well as work effectively in a team
- Ability to utilise your skills, knowledge, understanding, and experience working with families that are living with trauma to influence and guide practitioners to ensure safe and ethical practice
- Proven experience in applying a trauma informed and strength-based approach with a focus on service user advocacy and network engagement
A place to belong:
At 54 reasons, we invest in the development and wellbeing of our people. Our workforce is approximately 600 people strong, and proudly diverse, whether in race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexuality, cultures and beliefs.
It takes all types of people to do the challenging work we do. We are diverse personalities, backgrounds and talents, embracing our differences as one strong and united team. We see and celebrate the unique value you bring to our organisation, and offer a range of rewards for your effort, including:
- Generous award rate salary (Level 5.1 - currently $51.00 per hour) plus super and full salary packaging benefits - use this link to see how much this benefit could mean to you
