The ACT Executive is recruiting a Chief-of-Staff for the Government Communication Unit.

The ACT Government Communication Unit provides a holistic communication and engagement service to ACT Government Ministers. The team supports the communication of ACT Government announcements across multiple channels, working closely with ACT Government Directorates on how to best to engage with the Canberra community.

Reporting to the Chief of Staff in the Chief Minister's Office, the applicant will collaborate with senior officials in the ACT Public Service to provide advice on whole-of-government communication and engagement activity.

The Chief-of-Staff will implement the Government's strategic communication priorities, coordinating resources in the Government Communication Unit and across Government. The role is also involved in issues management, working closely with Ministerial offices and other members of the Government Communication Unit.

The Chief-of-Staff is expected to provide advice to Ministers on a range of communication activity, including traditional media, digital media, community engagement and research.

The successful applicant will provide strong leadership and strategic guidance to a high-performing team, foster a collaborative and supportive team environment to drive success and nurture skills development and professional growth among team members.

Eligibility/Other Requirements
Applicants will need to demonstrate;

  • An understanding of the use of communication platforms and activity, including traditional media, digital media community engagement and research.
  • Excellent interpersonal, liaison and relationship management skills.
  • Prior experience in managing sensitive and confidential issues.
  • A tertiary qualification in communication, arts or journalism.
  • A minimum seven years working in a communication or engagement role.

The successful applicant will have a demonstrated background in a strategic communication leadership role. This includes experience in managing a team.

Experience working in a government or political environment is preferred, but not essential. An understanding of the roles and functions of the ACT Government will also be viewed favourably by the selection panel.

Prior to commencement successful candidates may be required to undergo a pre-employment police check.

Notes:
The role is for the term of the government and when including the 7% Legislative Assembly Members allowance (LAMS) will be renumerated in the range of $176,021 to $198,384 depending on skills and experience, plus superannuation.

This is not an ACT public service position.
