The Role
We're looking for a
Senior Software Engineer
to help build and scale Kit's core backend systems.
You'll design and implement services and APIs that power our mobile app (which you'll also get a chance to work on) and internal tools, with a focus on performance, security, and maintainability. You'll work closely with fellow engineers, product managers, and designers to ship features that directly impact our customers - kids and their families.
This role is ideal for someone who loves backend development, thrives in cloud-native environments, and wants to contribute to a product with real social impact.

- TypeScript-based
serverless functions running in
Azure - Hasura
for GraphQL APIs and data access - PostgreSQL
for data storage - React
for internal portals (supporting teams using your APIs) - Flutter
for our customer-facing mobile app
What You'll Do
Design and Build Scalable Systems
- Develop, maintain, and optimise serverless backend services in Azure using TypeScript and
- Design and evolve GraphQL APIs with Hasura to support new product capabilities and ensure smooth integration across clients.
- Manage data models and schema evolution in PostgreSQL, with attention to performance and scalability.
- Implement robust observability, testing, and CI/CD practices to ensure reliable, maintainable deployments.
Collaborate and Deliver
- Partner with product and design teams to translate customer needs into reliable backend solutions.
- Contribute to technical discussions, architecture reviews, and system design decisions.
- Work closely with frontend and mobile engineers to define clear API contracts and enable great customer experiences.
Elevate the Craft
- Champion clean, maintainable code and high engineering standards.
- Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and internal knowledge sharing.
- Identify opportunities for technical and process improvements within the backend domain.
Experience and Skills
- Strong experience developing backend systems in , ideally within a serverless or microservice environment.
- Deep understanding of cloud-based architectures, with experience in Azure Functions or similar (AWS Lambda, Google Cloud Functions).
- Proficiency with GraphQL, particularly Hasura, and understanding of API design best practices.
- Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred) and data modelling.
- Familiarity with modern CI/CD pipelines, testing, and observability tools.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A continuous improvement mindset and passion for scalable, high-quality engineering.
