Laboratory Manager, Mine Safety

About the role:

The Mine Safety Laboratory Manager will provide leadership and direction to the Mine Safety Laboratory team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality testing services that support the mining industry in maintaining workplace safety and compliance with regulatory requirements.

This role is pivotal in driving the achievement of the laboratory's operational, strategic, and statutory objectives. The position is primarily laboratory-based, with occasional travel as required.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Lead and manage day to day operations in the laboratory.
  • Lead and manage the receipt, booking in and testing of samples and ensure adherence to the quality system requirements.
  • Responsible for ensuring the quality of all reports issued by the Laboratory
  • Develop and validate new methods of analysis as required
  • Maintain quality system and continued NATA accreditations
  • Actively participate in internal and external audits
  • Apply Work Health and Safety processes in the workplace and ensure a safe working environment is maintained

About you:

  • Relevant tertiary education in a science-based discipline (Ideally Chemistry)
  • Operational industry experience at leadership or supervisory level (preferred)
  • Valid NSW driver's license(essential)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Well-developed task prioritisation skills, exceptional time management skills and the ability to handle multiple projects/deadlines simultaneously
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret and apply testing standards
  • The ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
  • The ability to communicate at all levels confidently and effectively, in written, verbal and presentation form
  • Commitment to safety and quality assurance
  • Excellent report writing skills and associated level of computer literacy
  • Computer literate with proficiency in Excel, Microsoft Outlook and MS Word, PowerPoint.

Mines Rescue is responsible for ensuring that rescue services and equipment are available to respond to and manage emergencies or incidents arising at coal mines in NSW.
