Our client is seeking highly skilled and experienced Power Systems Engineers to join their team in either their South Brisbane or Beerwah office. As a full-time Power Systems Engineer, the successful candidate will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining complex electrical power systems that are fundamental to the company's operations.

What They're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, eligible for Engineers Australia membership, with strong experience in HV and EHV electrical engineering design and documentation.

  • Proficiency in conducting:

  • Load flow analysis

  • Short-circuit studies
  • Protection coordination
  • Arc flash hazard assessments
  • Harmonic distortion evaluations

  • Motor starting studies using industry-standard software platforms.

  • Strong capabilities in power system modelling and simulation tools, including:

  • DIgSILENT PowerFactory

  • PSCAD
  • ETAP

  • PowerTools for Windows with hands-on experience in both transmission and distribution-level systems.

  • Working knowledge of Python programming, applied for automation, scripting, and data exchange with power system analysis software to support advanced grid connection and interconnection studies.

  • A solid understanding of EHV and HV primary and secondary system design principles, including equipment rating, layout, clearances, insulation coordination, and earthing design.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant Australian and international electrical standards.
  • Familiarity with IEC 61850 communication protocols for smart substation design and protection and control system integration.
  • Experience in overhead line design, ideally including the use of PLS-CADD software.

Highly Regarded (Non-Essential) Skills
While not mandatory, the following skills and experience will be viewed favourably:

  • Experience in modelling renewable-rich, weak power grids, with a focus on voltage stability, frequency dynamics, and virtual inertia control using battery energy storage systems.
  • Familiarity with Omicron testing equipment (CT/VT, relay, and protection scheme testing) for primary and secondary injection, including protection relay configuration and end-to-end system testing.
