We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to take ownership of our cloud-based data streaming, integration, and messaging platforms. This role will see you drive the design, development, and governance of our Azure-based data solutions, ensuring scalability, performance, and operational excellence.

This is a high-impact opportunity to work across a hybrid environment, partnering with business and technology teams to deliver innovative, data-driven outcomes that support Australia's energy transition.

What you'll be responsible for

  • Design, develop, and manage Azure-based streaming and data integration platforms (Azure Event Hubs, Service Bus, Functions, Data Factory, Synapse).
  • Define and implement governance standards for onboarding, observability, monitoring, and capacity management.
  • Build and maintain monitoring dashboards and reporting solutions using Azure Monitor, Application Insights, and Power BI.
  • Partner with the Data & Integration team to manage distributed messaging and integration services in a hybrid (cloud + on-prem) environment.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders and project teams to deliver real-time data and integration solutions.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, operating procedures, and support playbooks.
  • Ensure compliance with change management and operational policies.
  • Contribute to both BAU and project work, including after-hours support on a rotational basis.

What you'll bring

  • Proven experience designing and operating data streaming and integration platforms in Azure.
  • Hands-on expertise with Azure Event Hubs, Azure Service Bus, Azure Functions, Azure Data Factory, and Azure Synapse.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, observability, and platform operations.
  • Proficiency in cloud monitoring and observability tools (Azure Monitor, App Insights, Log Analytics, Power BI).
  • Experience in data engineering and integration within the Energy, Utilities, or related sectors is highly desirable.
  • Solid background in SQL (SQL Server, Azure SQL, Synapse) and scripting (Python, PowerShell).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to deliver robust, scalable technical solutions.
  • Knowledge of enterprise data management tools and best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a proven ability to work closely with stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
