Position Description – Commercial Kitchen Assistant

Purpose

This position will be responsible for the delivery of high-quality food service and professional,

effective, and efficient operation of the commercial kitchen at the Mitchell Park Sports and

Community Centre. The primary objective of the Commercial Kitchen Assistant is to create

high level standards of cuisine from the menu. Assisting the Commercial Kitchen Lead in the

maintenance of cuisine concepts and standards for food preparation and presentation.

Key Deliverables

  • Assist the Commercial Kitchen Lead in food operations at Mitchel Park Sports and

Community Centre for City of Marion.

  • Ensure that all food handling safety legislative and regulations are met and adhered

to at the facility.

  • Set up and maintain the commercial kitchen for efficient operations (procedures,

equipment, maintenance).

  • Prepare food to the highest possible standard and in a timely manner for our

customers, ensuring appealing food presentation.

  • Deliver catering requirements as required.

  • Supervise kitchen hands and assistants and delegate tasks as required in the kitchen

area.

  • Assist the Commercial Kitchen Lead in monitoring stock levels and place orders in line

with budgets, ensuring adherence to budget and quality standards.

  • Contribute to menu development and pricing in conjunction with the Commercial

Kitchen Lead.

  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations within the kitchen area.

  • Ensure all procedures are conducted safely and within WH&S guidelines, maintaining

an awareness of duty of care to fellow staff and the public.

  • Initiate action to correct a hazardous situation and notify facility manager of potential

dangers.

  • Communicate with the Commercial Kitchen Lead, Facility Manager and all venue staff

in a professional and positive manner to foster a good rapport, promote team spirit

and ensure effective two-way communication.

  • Log security incidents and accidents with Facility Manager and Commercial kitchen

lead.

Essential criteria

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Previous experience in a hospitality, food, and beverage environment.

  • Food preparation and presentation skills

  • Proven work experience as a Chef or Cook.

  • Food preparation and presentation skills

  • Leadership skills.

  • Ability to remain calm and undertake various tasks.

  • Excellent time management abilities

  • Up-to-date knowledge of cooking techniques and recipes.

  • Ability to prepare spaces for hirer or event use, which may include extensive manual

handling tasks.

  • Ability to work in a small team environment.

  • Self-motivation – ability to take ownership and work with little direction.

  • Ability to build strong work relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders and gain

cooperation.

Qualifications

  • Chef and/or cooking qualifications (Minimum of Certificate lll in Commercial Cookery)

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • An ability to actively interact with customers to anticipate needs.

  • Be familiar with property safety, first aid and fire and emergency procedures.

  • Experience working in a sports or community facility environment.

  • Experience operating in a busy customer service environment with face-to-face

communication.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite software and computer literacy.

Standard conditions

  • Satisfactory completion of a National Police Clearance (will be arranged by the City of

Marion)

  • Satisfactory completion of applicable Medical Assessment (will be arranged by the

City of Marion)

  • Must be either an Australian resident or possess the legal right to work in Australia,

with the ability to provide documentation of a valid work visa.

  • Comply with existing Work, Health and Safety legislation and regulation obligations and

apply "Think Safe Live Well" philosophy.

  • Embrace ethical and moral behavior and report any suspected instances of fraud

and/or corruption in accordance with Fraud and Corruption Management and the

Code of Conduct.
