Design Manager

About the role

Lead and coordinate the site masterplanning, acquisition analysis, urban design, landscape design and internal 'block and stacks' of schools for the purpose of Business Case approval and project definition for design briefs. Provide expertise and design management with respect to educational and built form design considerations and principles and facilitate the delivery of education excellence aligned to the School Infrastructure Pattern Book and EFSG.

The role sits with the Design and Infrastructure Standards team within the School Infrastructure, Infrastructure Services business unit. The masterplanning team is an important function within School Infrastructure and the team which includes urban designers, architects and landscape architects, provides site and masterplans for existing schools which are being upgraded with new facilities and refurbishments as well as new schools site plans ranging from large scale greenfield sites to land efficient urban schools in dense urban areas. This team collaborates closely with the Planning and Delivery teams and is engaged at the beginning of a project to establish the project definition and design brief.

About you -

  • Experience in leading and managing teams in large complex organisations with multiple stakeholders and strong technical skills in masterplanning
  • Expertise in using digital technology and software for 3D modelling and site analysis
  • Expertise in working in a cross functional environment
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management skills
  • Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

Essential requirements of the role

  • Relevant architectural qualifications and workplace experience in Architecture, Design, Construction or a related field.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
