We are seeking a speech pathologist to join our school's allied health team.

About Us

Endeavour Hills Specialist School provides differentiated learning programs for students aged 5 to 18. Our students present diverse and complex needs, secondary to intellectual disability or ASD with severe language disorder. Endeavour Hills Specialist School opened in 2022 and offers an exciting opportunity to join a team committed to building a centre of excellence where best practice forms the foundation of all learning programs.

Allied Health is a valued part of our school community and is represented at the senior leadership level by the Allied Health Team Leader. Our Allied Health team comprises speech pathologists, occupational therapists, music therapists, psychologists, nurses, and allied health assistants. We work alongside teaching staff to deliver interventions within class programs. We aim to embed best-practice strategies into all learning programs, to extend student participation across the school week.

The speech pathology team advocate for a multi-modal approach to communication where every mode of communication is valued. We are committed to building an accessible communication environment, which fosters autonomous communication for all students.

The role

We are seeking a speech pathologist who is interested in a full-time position; however, this is negotiable for the right candidate. This is an ongoing, permanent position.

In this position, you will:

  • Support students to access the school curriculum by implementing therapeutic supports within class programs.
  • Work collaboratively with transdisciplinary teams to deliver programs and interventions relevant to your scope of practice.
  • Contribute to school improvement initiatives, such as Communication Accessible Schools, SWPBS or implementation of the RTI Framework.
  • Deliver and/or contribute to professional learning for school staff when relevant.
  • Work closely with students and their families to support communication across the home and school environment.

  • Coordinate clinical placement programs for undergraduate speech pathology students.

Mentoring and Support

We recognise the importance of life-long learning and professional development. Every member of our Allied Health team has access to regular professional supervision, usually weekly or fortnightly, depending on need. The Allied Health team regularly work together within class programs, offering opportunities to learn, problem-solve and develop a transdisciplinary lens. Allied Health have access to an annual professional development budget, which is distributed within the allied health team.

PLEASE NOTE: THE FOLLOWING SELECTION CRITERIA MUST BE ADDRESSED.

Key Selection Criteria

SC 1

Demonstrated ability to provide speech pathology services to school-aged children with intellectual disability and/or ASD with language disorder to enable students to access the school curriculum.

SC 2

Demonstrated ability to work independently, to accept supervision as required, and an ability to seek support and implement recommendations.

SC 3

Commitment to working collaboratively with others; accepting and acting on feedback; engaging in continual professional learning for self and others.

SC

Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience supporting students who have complex communication needs, requiring the use of augmentative and alternative communication.

SC 5

Demonstrated skills in developing effective and respectful relationships; modelling and explicitly teaching the school values.

Required

  • Applicants must be qualified as a speech pathologist and be eligible for Certified Practising Speech Pathologist (CPSP) status.
  • A current Working with Children Check.

Desirable

  • At least 1 year experience employed as a speech pathologist in a relevant setting.
