The Carpet Institute of Australia is the peak industry body for the carpet sector, committed to advancing sustainability and innovation through programs like the Australian Carpet Classification Scheme (ACCS) and Environmental Certification Scheme (ECS). Our restructuring emphasizes environmental expertise to enhance these programs, and the Environmental Officer will lead their management to support members and ACCS Licensees.
Role Overview: The Environmental Officer is responsible for managing the ACCS and ECS programs, ensuring they meet industry standards and align with sustainability goals, particularly those of the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA). This role requires a qualified professional with environmental expertise to drive program compliance and support the Institute's commitment to sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
ACCS Program Management:
i Oversee the Australian Carpet Classification Scheme, managing certification processes, compliance monitoring, and stakeholder engagement.
ii Ensure ACCS meets industry standards and delivers value to members and licensees.
iii Coordinate with technical committees and stakeholders to update and improve the scheme.
ECS Program Management:
i Manage the Environmental Certification Scheme, ensuring certifications aligns with environmental standards and supports sustainability objectives.
ii Monitor and report on ECS performance, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
GBCA Alignment:
i Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) frameworks, such as Green Star, the Responsible Product Framework and ensure ACCS and ECS programs align with these standards.
ii Liaise with GBCA and other environmental bodies to enhance program credibility and relevance.
Technical Expertise:
i Provide environmental guidance to Carpet Institute members and ACCS Licensees to support their sustainability goals.
ii Assess environmental performance data and recommend improvements to certification processes.
Program Development:
i Continuously improve ACCS and ECS programs based on industry trends, member feedback, and advancements in environmental standards.
ii Collaborate with the Marketing Manager to promote the environmental benefits of these programs.
Qualifications and Skills
Preferrable:
i Graduate degree in chemistry, environmental science, sustainability, engineering, or a related field.
ii Familiarity with the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) and its frameworks (e.g., Green Star).
iii years' experience in product environmental management, product certification programs, or sustainability initiatives.
iv Strong understanding of industrial environmental compliance and product certification processes.
Useful:
i Experience in the carpet, flooring and building industries.
ii Knowledge of other sustainability frameworks or certifications (e.g., ISO 14001, WELL Building Standard).
Skills and Attributes:
i Strong analytical skills to assess environmental data and ensure program compliance.
ii Excellent communication skills to engage with members, licensees, and external bodies like the GBCA.
iii Detail-oriented with the ability to manage complex certification processes. - Collaborative approach to work with internal teams and external stakeholders.
iv Passion for sustainability and advancing environmental standards in the industry.
