St Michael's welcomes the exciting opportunity to invest in a creative and energetic graduate teacher of English and Humanities for 2026. As a new member of the teaching profession, your early-career development will be supported through coaching and mentorship from a dedicated mentor within a flourishing, collaborative environment. The successful applicant will enjoy a reduced teaching load of three classes across a combination of English and Humanities at Years 7 to 10, as well as the opportunity to engage in our renowned pastoral care and wellbeing program as a House Tutor.

Please note, that this position is exclusively targeted towards graduate teachers, who commence at St Michael's on a Level 5 base salary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver creative, engaging and differentiated lessons in English and Humanities classes across Years 7–10, including mixed-ability classes.
  • Support student wellbeing through active participation in the School's pastoral care programs.
  • Contribute to the School's co-curricular offerings in accordance with the role's time fraction.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in teaching, learning and caring.

Key Requirements

  • Have current VIT registration.
  • Actively engage in all aspects of school life, contributing to a vibrant and connected learning community.
  • Have proven experience in inquiry-based learning, fostering student agency, engagement, and higher-order thinking.
  • Demonstrate clear, adaptive communication skills, ensuring curriculum and classroom practice are responsive and inclusive.
  • Model exemplary classroom practice, using innovative and effective teaching strategies that reflect current research in pedagogy.
