Role Purpose

At Yarra Trams, our mission is to deliver world-class transport services to our passengers. In this role, you will contribute to this goal by leading the investigation function and conduct comprehensive investigations into incidents, accidents, and safety-related issues on the Yarra Tram network. This role will identify root causes, develop recommendations for corrective actions, and support the implementation of safety improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and conduct complex investigations into incidents, accidents, and safety-related issues, ensuring thoroughness, impartiality, and timeliness.
  • Identify root causes of incidents and develop recommendations for corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including operations, maintenance, and safety teams, to gather information and support investigation efforts.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, industry partners, and emergency services.
  • Prepare and present investigation reports, findings, and recommendations to senior management, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Support the development and implementation of safety improvements, including changes to procedures, training, and equipment.
  • Establish and lead the community of practice for investigations across the organisation and provide coaching, mentoring, and guidance to junior investigators and other team members.

Skills & Experience

  • Qualifications in ICAM Lead Investigation
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in incident investigation, safety management, or a related field, preferably in the rail industry.
  • Proven experience in leading and conducting complex investigations, including identifying root causes and developing corrective actions.
  • Strong knowledge of safety management principles, incident investigation methodologies, and relevant regulations and standards (e.g., Safety Management System (SMS) requirements).
  • Must possess well developed interpersonal conflict resolution skills and problem-solving capability including the ability to plan, proactive and deliver
  • against targets in a dynamic business environment.
  • Experience and proven ability in dealing with a broad range of OHS issues and implementing change in a technical environment.
  • Ability to respond to incidents on-site, work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
