Accounts Receivable

About the role

SMSGlobal Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced and dependable Accounts Receivable / Payable Officer to take end-to-end ownership of accounts receivable, accounts payable, and bank reconciliations.

This is a hands-on operational role suited to someone who is comfortable working autonomously, values accuracy, and takes responsibility for closing tasks properly and within agreed timeframes. You will play a key role in supporting cash flow, maintaining clean financial records, and bringing structure and consistency to day-to-day finance operations.

This role is intended for someone who enjoys and wants to remain in a hands-on AR/AP position, taking pride in executing core finance operations well, rather than as a transitional or step-up role.

Key responsibilities

Accounts Receivable

• End-to-end management of customer accounts and outstanding balances
• Proactive follow-up of overdue accounts via email and phone
• Accurate allocation of receipts and resolution of billing discrepancies
• Maintenance of AR ageing and clear escalation of overdue items
• Support credit reviews and adherence to agreed payment terms

Accounts Payable

• Accurate processing of supplier invoices with correct coding and approvals
• Preparation and execution of weekly payment runs
• Supplier statement reconciliations and resolution of variances
• Maintenance of supplier master data
• Monitoring of due dates to avoid late fees and service disruption

Bank & cash reconciliations

• Daily and periodic bank reconciliations across all company accounts
• Investigation and timely resolution of reconciling items
• Escalation of unusual or unresolved items with clear explanations

Finance operations

• Own the finance inbox and respond to customer enquiries promptly and professionally, maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.
• Support month-end close including journals, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations
• Maintenance of accurate, well-organised financial records
• Collaboration with Sales, Customer Support, and internal stakeholders

What we're looking for

• 3+ years' experience in accounts receivable and accounts payable roles
• Demonstrated experience completing bank reconciliations independently
• Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals
• Experience with accounting systems (Xero experience highly regarded)
• Strong Excel skills (lookups, pivots, reconciliation work)
• Clear, professional communication skills with customers and suppliers
• Highly organised with strong attention to detail and time management
• Comfortable working autonomously and taking ownership of outcomes
• Reliable, proactive, and consistent in meeting deadlines
• High level of integrity and respect for confidentiality

• AR and AP processes are completed accurately and on time
• Bank reconciliations are completed and cleared without follow-up
• Issues are identified early and escalated with proposed solutions
• Customer enquiries addresed promptly and professionally, maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.
