Primary objective
As a member of Teaching and Learning Services, you will lead, coordinate and implement systemic policy and strategy to improve student
outcomes. This position uses knowledge, skills and understanding of leading curriculum, teaching, learning and assessment to provide
advice, professional learning, capability building and development of high-quality resources.
Context statement
Teaching and Learning Services (TLS) provides evidence-based differentiated services and support to preschools and schools to maximise
outcomes for Territory children and young people. Our services encompass quality teaching and learning, national and systemic
assessment, transition to boarding school support and policy coordination. TLS also plays a strategic role in implementing government
priorities, offering expert advice to the Education Minister and the department's senior executives. We enhance our work by actively
engaging with a broad range of stakeholders to ensure best outcomes for all of our clients.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide support to schools in teaching, learning and assessment to improve learning outcomes and post-school pathways for students
in Northern Territory (NT) schools, with a particular focus on English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) and culturally
responsive learning that sit within the Northern Territory Learning and Teaching Model (NTLTM).
- Build capacity of school staff through coaching and mentoring to deliver differentiated and explicit curriculum that is flexible and
responsive to school contexts. This includes implementation of the Australian Curriculum (AC) and the Northern Territory Certificate
of Education and Training (NTCET) and the use of the NTLTM.
Use data literacy practices to inform and implement professional learning to achieve organisation outcomes.
Develop and maintain comprehensive and effective professional networks and collaborative partnerships to achieve outcomes.
- As a member of TLS provide accurate and authoritative information to senior executives and contribute to service delivery through an
integrated team approach, optimising organisational performance for Years T-12 in line with departmental policies.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A sound knowledge and understanding of national and NT strategic policy and practice associated with the AC, the NTCET and EAL/D
pedagogy, including application of culturally and linguistically responsive teaching practices to meet diverse student needs.
- Recent and relevant leadership of curriculum delivery for learners in remote, regional and/or urban contexts using the AC, NTCET or
other secondary curriculum, demonstrating success in improving outcomes through evidence-based approaches for EAL/D learners.
3. Demonstrated experience in coaching and mentoring to implement evidence-based, differentiated approaches in school contexts with
a focus on sustainability and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively within and across teams and networks in a variety of educational contexts
to achieve agreed outcomes.
5. Demonstrated high level interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills including cross-cultural skills, with the ability to build and
maintain effective networks with a range of stakeholders, including those in corporate, urban and remote contexts, to maximise
organisational performance.
- Experience in leading and evaluating professional learning for evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning including
curriculum, pedagogy and quality assessment processes.
- Demonstrated commitment to own professional development.
Desirable
1. Postgraduate qualifications in TESOL or a related field.

The selected applicant must hold full Registration with the Teacher Registration Board of the Northern Territory; current NT Working
with Children Notice (Ochre Card) and driver's licence or the ability to obtain prior to commencement. This position is offered under
office-based conditions and will involve extensive travel to remote communities across the Northern Territory.
