Purpose of the Position

The Lecturer Early Childhood Education and Care is responsible for the delivery of quality Vocational Education and Training (VET) within the context of Batchelor Institute's role as Australia's leading First Nations Tertiary Education and Research provider. The Lecturer is responsible for the development and delivery of innovative VET programs underpinned by the Batchelor Institute Both-ways principles of practice.

Duties

  • Demonstrate awareness of basic VET educational theories; determine applicability of theories to the learning needs of individuals and groups and contribute to the development of resources and programs based on the Batchelor Institute Learning and Teaching Framework which generates authentic learning experiences and to the design of flexible learning strategies.
  • Use strategies and skills to ensure learner engagement and achievement of leaning outcomes; create supportive learner inter-relationships; use a range of technologies effectively.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the principles of assessment and the rules of evidence and contribute to the development of assessment tools, or modify existing ones, to suit learner needs and specified context.
  • Employ a range of methods to ensure principles of assessment and rules of evidence are met in assessment processes and decisions as well as participate in validation processes.
  • Liaise with enterprises and community to ensure teaching and assessment reflects current industry practices and community values and aspirations. In addition, participate in enterprise and community networks to enhance own knowledge and skills.
  • Maintain vocational competency relevant to own subject area; keep up to date with industry changes; participate in relevant industry and community events/networks/consultation.
  • Contextualise program content and adapt teaching practices to suit specified enterprise needs and community values and aspirations.
  • Undertake travel throughout the Northern Territory and while staying on country to deliver workshop block training and assessment.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties as directed by your line manager.

Selection Criteria

  1. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in culturally diverse teams within the social, political, and cultural environments of Indigenous Australian families, communities, and organisations and communicate sensitively and effectively with indigenous Australians, including adult students and community members.
  2. Must possess relevant vocational qualifications in the specialist teaching area, at the diploma or degree level, combined with 3 or more years industry/professional/vocational experience.
  3. Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110) or equivalent as accepted by ASQA regulations or the ability to obtain.
  4. Demonstrated understanding of and ability to comply with VET management and administration polices, procedures and business rules and an understanding of the Standards for RTO's 2025 and relevant legislation and ensure compliance in own work practices.
  5. Highly effective interpersonal skills including proficient written and oral communication which can be adapted to meet the needs of people from all educational levels.
  6. Demonstrated initiative and managing workload priorities.
  7. The successful candidate must possess a sufficient level of physical fitness and resilience to undertake frequent travel throughout the Northern Territory by land, sea, and air (including in light aircraft), often for extended stays of 1–2 weeks in remote communities. This includes the ability to perform physical tasks such as changing a tyre and loading or unloading teaching resources, sometimes in challenging environmental conditions. Candidates must hold a Northern Territory 'C' class driver's licence, have experience driving on unformed roads, and be prepared to stay in a variety of accommodations and settings as required by Batchelor Institute.
  8. Understanding of Work, Health and Safety principles and practices, and ability to comply with Institute WHS policies and procedures.
