Senior Residential Assistant

Position purpose:
The purpose of this role is to provide leadership through upholding and promoting a healthy and positive culture within our Raymont College community. As a senior residential assistant (SRA), you will also supervise and lead a team of Residential Assistants, working closely with the Deputy Principal and Principal to provide wellbeing and leadership across all aspects of university life.
Key responsibilities:
General Duties
- Pro-actively lead and influence Raymont Residential College for good, and work to uphold a positive and vibrant culture in which all students can flourish.
- Work effectively as a member of the Senior Residential Assistant (SRA) team. This includes displaying respect, support and cooperation with the other SRA's in the achievement of their responsibilities and bringing together the Raymont community.
- Attend scheduled training sessions and events, as required, including (but not limited to)
- Training week held prior to the beginning of Semester 1
- Enrolment day to welcome new students
- University Open Days (QUT, ACU)
- All formal Raymont events (i.e. dinners and Gala)
- Assist with the delivery of orientation/induction of new Raymont residents at the beginning of Semester One and Two.
- Assist the Deputy Principal and Principal in guiding RAs and Res members in the performance and fulfilment of their duties, including the selection and performance review of Ras and Res members.
- Participate in weekly catch ups with the Deputy Principal/ Principal.
- Provide support for residents over the Summer break if required.
- Act as a Student Ambassador for Raymont as required.
- Support the Res Assoc in the organisation of Raymont Residential College activities and promote major College programs including the Flourishing at Uni series, and Tutorials.
- Respond to emails and communications from Raymont Staff in a timely manner.
- Model the values of the Uniting Church in Australia, Queensland Synod in day to day work including interactions with managers, lay staff, ministry agents, clients and stakeholders.
- Compliance with Queensland Synod policies, procedures and relevant legislation.
- Comply with Health and Safety directions and Public Health directions.
- Undertake other duties as and when directed within the scope of the role and the capabilities of the incumbent, as directed by the Deputy Principal / Principal.
Senior Residential Assistant Duty:
- When on Duty respond to calls made to SRA phone.
- Respond to any resident complaints or issues beyond the ability of the Duty RA to resolve.
- Complete rounds of the Uniting Church Centre, Raymont Accommodation and Drysllwyn House not later than 11 pm.
- Inspect all units, Rec House, gym, study areas to ensure that noise is kept to a minimum and that all guests have departed the precinct by 11 pm.
- Act as the Deputy Chief Warden after hours to respond to Raymont Residential College emergencies until relieved by a member of staff as required.
- Providing initial support to sick or injured students.
- When necessary, undertaking Raymont Residential College tours with prospective students and their families.
- Meet guest residents as required, showing them to their room and giving them a brief outline of where things are, timings for meals and what to do in an emergency.
Key performance indicators:
- Regular attendance at contributions to fortnightly SLT meetings and catch ups with the Deputy Principal and Principal.
- Raymont residents are provided a warm welcome and an appropriate orientation to the College.
- New residents are successfully inducted and supported into College life.
- All residents in their unit understand the values & rules of the College, are aware of what is expected, outcomes of meetings and upcoming events.
- Noise complaints and student issues are resolved in a respectful and timely manner.
- Maintain alignment with the Office of Synod purpose, culture and values (values referenced under additional requirements).
Reporting relationship and delegations:
- Position reports to the Deputy Principal
Selection criteria:
- Must be a resident of Raymont Residential College
- A maintained GPA of 5 and above is desirable.
- Previous experience as an RA / Res / SRA is desirable.
Experience and skills:
- Demonstrated maturity, reliability and proven ability to utilise a high degree of initiative and decision making within a communal lifestyle.
- Demonstrated dynamic and resourceful leadership and team management skills, (completion of the Raymont Leadership Course would be an advantage).
- Ability to apply strong communication skills in dealing with students, parents, and College employees.
- Ability to take charge during emergencies or incidents, applying strong communication skills in dealing with students and others involved.
- Demonstrated personal character including compassion, respect, integrity and personal courage.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage competing priorities while still achieving strong results.
- Demonstrated ability to act with impartiality and honesty.
- Commitment to working within the purpose and values of Raymont Residential College.
Additional requirements:
- A current QLD Driver's Licence (desirable)
- Senior Residential Assistants are required to be on sight a minimum of four out of seven nights.
- Senior Residential Assistants are required to undertake SRA Duty every three days (as per roster).
- The successful applicant must be a resident of Raymont Residential College.
- The successful applicant must be eligible to legally work in Australia and proof of eligibility may be requested.
- Behave in accordance with the values of the Office of the Synod.
