Founded in 1993, Lovegrove & Cotton Construction and Planning Lawyers is one of Victoria's longest-standing construction law firms. The practice has deep roots in the state's building law framework, with its founder, Adjunct Professor Kim Lovegrove, serving as the principal legal adviser in the development of the Building Act 1993 (Vic).

We act in a wide range of matters, including litigation and dispute resolution, regulatory compliance, contract advisory work. Our clients span homeowners, contractors, councils, and developers, and we are known for our practical, rigorous, and client-focused approach.

About the Role

We are seeking a Melbourne-based Senior Construction Lawyer to join our team on a full-time basis. This position offers the opportunity to take carriage of files and manage matters with autonomy, while also working closely with colleagues. The successful applicant will gain exposure to:

  • Contract drafting and advisory work
  • Litigation and dispute resolution in VCAT, County, Supreme and other jurisdictions
  • Regulatory compliance advice
  • Direct client contact and strategic case management
  • Adjudication and related construction industry processes

An immediate start is available if requested, with flexibility for an agreed later commencement.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum 3+ years' post-admission experience in construction law and admitted to practice in Australia.
  • Experience in litigation and dispute resolution
  • Strong technical ability in front-end and/or back-end construction matters
  • Exceptional drafting and analytical skills, with clear written and verbal communication
  • Demonstrated ability to manage matters independently while working collaboratively in a small team
  • Strong client relationship management and commercial awareness
  • A supportive and mentoring approach to junior team members, where required
