Hello. We're Virgin Australia. We're the airline that's always done things a little different. Our way. The Virgin way. We're on a mission to make flying better than 'nice'. And to do that, it takes a team of talented people who are passionate about customer experience, doing the right thing always, with a focus on safety – in the air, on the ground and in our workplaces. A team who values real diversity and inclusion, in a big brand with big ambitions.
What you'll be doing
This is a unique opportunity where you'll use your extensive financial expertise to influence the performance of two of our most critical operational areas — Engineering and Airport Operations.
As the Manager, FP&A – Engineering & Airport Operations, you'll play a key leadership role in shaping strategic decisions through robust financial planning and analysis. You'll lead a small, high-performing team, and work closely with senior leaders to develop business cases, produce accurate forecasts, and provide meaningful variance analysis that drives continuous improvement and operational excellence.
In addition, you will:
- Serve as a trusted financial partner to the CFO, COO, and their leadership teams, supporting the Engineering and Airport Operations division.
- Lead the preparation, oversight, and delivery of all forecasts, budgets, and multi-year financial plans for Engineering and Airport Operations.
- Monitor, review and prepare the presentation of the management financials for discussion with the relevant executive member and their leadership team, including supporting the executive in reviewing the financial performance of their leadership team's departments
- Drive financial planning and analysis across major aviation programs, including heavy maintenance (airframe, engines, components), aircraft/system modifications, entry-into-service projects, reserve payments, lease-end compensation, and ownership cost management.
- Build and validate complex business cases in connection with initiatives and business transformation, ensuring to justify potential investment and quantifying benefit, in support of the company's growth strategy
- Support the CFO, GMs and their leadership teams with Ad Hoc analysis and insight into the financial performance of the Engineering and Airport Operations.
- Engage with cross functional teams to manage the business and drive continuous improvement.
- Systematize financial models and reports
- Develop business partners and analysts into future leaders
- Leadership of the Financial Planning and Analysis teams both your direct reports and the wider team
- Assess and implement the most appropriate team structure, ensuring team leaders have the right leadership skills and subject matter capability for their respective functions
- Proactively work with internal stakeholders across the VA Group
You'll be great in this role if you have…
- Tertiary qualification in Business, Finance, or Risk Management or similar
- High level of knowledge and understanding of the commercial drivers for the profitability of a large, corporate business
- Ability to think strategically and implement initiatives in a way that delivers business outcomes
- Extensive experience in enterprise risk reporting, analysis, and dashboard reporting using data analytics
- Demonstrated experience in applying risk appetite concepts in a business context
- Ability to build successful working relationships with stakeholders at all levels across the organisation
- Outstanding Leadership skills and a demonstrated track record of developing junior team members
- Extensive experience in Business Partnering and Finance Support of the business units, or Management Consulting experience
- Strong understanding of AS/NZS ISO 31000 Risk Management Standard and its practical application
- Proven track record in improving processes and delivering against deadlines
- Experience in preparing presentations and analysis for executives and boards
We're committed to looking after you, with some of the best benefits and conditions in the industry – including (but not limited to):
- Discounted flights for you and your loved ones (including $1000 worth of travel credits per year)
- A flexible, hybrid work style. Work from home or the office, adapt your location to suit your style and needs
