About The Team
The Personalised Medicine Centre is a joint initiative between Murdoch University and the Perron Institute, bringing together leading researchers and clinicians to advance personalised medicine. Our multidisciplinary team is dedicated to developing tailored treatments based on individual genetic and lifestyle factors. We focus on a wide range of critical health challenges, including genetic therapies, genomics, motor neurone disease, sepsis, immunogenomics, drug hypersensitivity, cognitive health, muscular dystrophy, and neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson's disease, myositis, and multiple sclerosis.
Your New Role
The Graduate Research Officer applies prescribed procedures and techniques in the examination of specimens within a laboratory and contributes to the development of improved processes and procedures for the examination of specimens. You will support specific projects whilst contributing to the general pool to ensure continuity of workloads.
Your key responsibilities will include -
- Perform complex and specialised technical services and data analysis of a molecular biology nature in the provisions of genomics research and services.
- Design, construct and set up complex experiments under broad supervision using specialised equipment.
- Examine and interpret results with respect to expected results and their significance to referral to a Senior Scientist.
- Draft reports and standard operating procedures.
- Maintain documents relevant to the facilities quality management framework.
- Engage in the supervision of laboratory work for honours and PhD students.

This Fixed Term (12 Months) | Full Time (37.5 hours per week) attracts a remuneration of $79,000 - $96,000 plus 17% employer superannuation contributions.

What you'll bring to the role:
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Ability to problem solve and apply theoretical scientific principles and techniques at a degree level.
- Ability to effectively analyse information and produce clear, succinct reports and documents.
- Planning and organisational skills; with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks to meet deadlines.
- General knowledge of laboratory procedures, including laboratory safety.
- High levels of written and oral communication skills in English.
- Experience with molecular techniques relevant to a medical genomics laboratory.
