About Us

MOM Darwin is not your typical hostel – we're a vibrant 400-bed party hostel with a rooftop pool bar, busy café, and a reputation as one of Darwin's most energetic travel hubs. We've been operating successfully for over 5 years and are now looking for a driven, strategic, and hands-on General Manager to lead our next stage of growth.

This role is as much resort management as it is hostel leadership: you'll be across every area of the business, from people and operations to revenue and growth. The business is profitable, well-established, and backed by directors who are ready to invest in new ideas and projects.


The Role

As General Manager, you will:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of all departments – accommodation, bar, café, and events.
  • Directly manage three department heads: Assistant/Hostel Manager, Reception Manager, and Bar Manager, ensuring they are supported, motivated, and driving results.
  • Work closely with the directors on strategic growth, business development, and revenue generation – both from existing streams and new initiatives.
  • Take a lead role in renovations, property upgrades, repairs, and maintenance, including liaising with landlords, property managers, and trades.
  • Be customer-facing when required, especially during quieter wet-season periods, stepping into operational roles to help save on costs.
  • Drive efficiency, staff performance, and time management across the business to ensure a high-performing culture.
  • Represent MOM Darwin at an industry level – liaising with tourism partners, suppliers, contractors, and community stakeholders.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will be:

  • A proven leader with experience in hospitality, resorts, hotels, or large-scale hostels.
  • Minimum 3-4 years of management experience in hospitality or resort operations is required.
  • Commercially savvy with strong skills in operations, budgeting, and business growth.
  • Full venue P&L responsibility and financial management experience is essential.
  • Hands-on and adaptable – just as comfortable on the desk or in the bar as you are in strategy meetings.
  • Highly organised, with excellent time management and the ability to juggle competing priorities.
  • A natural people manager who can get the best out of teams, build culture, and hold staff accountable.
  • Experience managing teams of 20-40 staff is required.
  • Comfortable taking ownership of projects, renovations, and property matters, not just day-to-day operations.
  • Someone with energy, ideas, and drive – who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
