Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Machine Operator / Line Leader to oversee daily packing line operations within our factory. This is a permanent, full-time role, 6 days per work, working 10 hour shifts. This role requires strong technical aptitude with food manufacturing machinery, the ability to lead a small team, and a commitment to meeting packing targets and quality/ food safety standards. You will play a key role in ensuring smooth line performance, efficient changeovers, and compliance with food safety and GMP requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Line & Machine Operations

  • Operate, monitor, and adjust packing machinery (tray sealers, flow wrappers, conveyors, labellers, depositors, etc.).
  • Perform daily machine start-up, shutdown, and changeover procedures.
  • Identify and troubleshoot basic mechanical and process issues, escalating where needed.
  • Ensure continuous machine operation with minimal downtime.

Line Leadership

  • Lead and support line operators to meet daily production and packing targets.
  • Allocate tasks, monitor workflow, and ensure correct manning of stations.
  • Provide on-the-job training and guidance to casual and permanent operators.
  • Maintain accurate batch, production, and downtime records.

Quality & Food Safety

  • Ensure strict compliance with GMP, HACCP, SQF, and Yummy Karma SOPs.
  • Ensure 100% completion of line QA records
  • Conduct visual inspections and in-process checks (weights, seals, labelling, coding).
  • Report any non-conformance or quality issues immediately to QA/Production Manager.
  • Support traceability by maintaining clear, accurate documentation.

Efficiency & Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor and minimise waste, rework, and labour inefficiencies.
  • Suggest and support process improvements for better line efficiency.
  • Assist in preventive maintenance activities and keep machines in good working order.

What You Bring

  • 2+ years' experience as a machine operator or line leader, ideally in food manufacturing or FMCG.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of GMP, HACCP, food safety and hygiene requirements.
  • Ability to train, motivate and oversee small teams.
  • Attention to detail and ability to keep accurate records.
  • A reliable, hands-on and proactive attitude.
