New Porgera Limited (NPL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea and owns the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province. The Porgera Gold Mine will employ nearly 3,000 Papua New Guineans at full production, and over the last 30 years of life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea's total annual exports.

About the role

We are seeking a highly experienced Superintendent – Mine Engineering Services – Underground to join our Mining Technical Services Team.  In this critical role, you will report to the Manager Technical Services and be responsible for leading all underground engineering functions at Porgera, including mine planning, drill & blast, ventilation, paste & backfill, data management, reporting, and projects. The role provides strategic and technical direction to deliver accurate mine plans, optimise design and scheduling, and ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable operations. Key accountabilities include managing ventilation and backfill systems, overseeing capital and sustaining projects, implementing engineering standards, and ensuring compliance with HSEC and regulatory requirements. You will drive innovation and continuous improvement, manage budgets and resources, and develop our national engineers and technical staff through mentoring and training.

You will model safety behaviours and coach and develop your team, working with your team to assess and manage risk.  NPL operates in a complex environment that requires the successful applicant to be a self-starter, with strong ability in delivery to support the mines successful operation whilst coordinating the efforts of your team members to complete projects according to plan in a timely and safe manner.

About you

As the successful applicant, you will hold a Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering (with postgraduate qualifications in mine management, geotechnical, or ventilation considered advantageous) and be a member or eligible member of a recognised professional engineering body. You will have a minimum of 10 years of underground mining engineering experience, including five years in senior leadership, with strong expertise in mine planning, geotechnical, ventilation, and backfill systems. Demonstrated success in leading multidisciplinary teams, managing safety, risk, and compliance in complex underground operations, and previous expatriate or PNG experience are highly regarded. The role requires a resilient leader with excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills, proven capability in mentoring and developing people, and a strong commitment to cultural awareness and working effectively in a diverse and remote environment.

This role is offered on a FIFO basis either from Papua New Guinea or Australia/New Zealand with a 21/14 roster on a contract basis with a highly competitive remuneration package.
