Position Description:

Our client, a key government agency responsible for digital transformation, is managing several whole-of-government ICT arrangements with major technology vendors. These strategic agreements aim to streamline software and cloud procurement across the public sector, delivering greater value, cost-efficiency, and alignment with government priorities.

To support ongoing and upcoming large-scale vendor negotiations, the agency is seeking experienced Commercial Advisors to provide strategic, analytical, and negotiation support throughout all project phases — from discovery and planning to implementation.

This role offers a unique opportunity to work on some of the most significant IT vendor contracts in Australia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support or lead negotiations with major IT vendors (e.g. Microsoft, Oracle, AWS, SAP, IBM).
  • Develop and contribute to key documents: negotiation strategies, pricing models, procurement plans, business requirements.
  • Conduct data and license usage analysis to support commercial decision-making.
  • Provide market intelligence and commercial insights based on vendor trends and industry benchmarks.
  • Offer commercial advisory throughout all stages of the engagement (discovery, pre-negotiation, negotiation, and post-deal implementation).
  • Ensure alignment with government procurement frameworks, probity requirements, and internal governance processes.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders to build consensus and support negotiation strategy.

We're looking for professionals who can demonstrate:

  • Proven experience negotiating complex ICT/software/cloud contracts, ideally in a government or enterprise environment.
  • Strong commercial knowledge of at least one major vendor (e.g., Microsoft, Oracle, AWS, SAP).
  • Understanding of public sector procurement rules (e.g. CPRs or similar).
  • Ability to work with data, pricing models, licensing trends, and usage analytics.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, written communication, and strategic thinking.

Bonus Points For

  • Experience advising or supporting whole-of-government or cross-agency deals
  • Familiarity with Commonwealth procurement and contract management frameworks
  • Previous work on subscription-based IT advisory or vendor licensing models
