Azure Senior Architect – Migration Lead

Position Summary
The Migration Lead & Azure Architect is accountable for leading the migration of AVS and on-premises workloads to Azure Native for a major Australian bank. Combines deep Azure architecture expertise with hands-on migration leadership to deliver secure, scalable, and compliant cloud solutions. Drives strategy, execution, and stakeholder alignment across technical and regulatory domains.
Mandatory Skills
- Designing Solutions for Migrating Azure AVS workloads and on premises workloads to Azure Native
- Strong Networking Knowledge to perform and assess the networking requirements for migration
- Expertise in Azure network components liks Virtual Networks (VNet), Subnets, NSGs, Route Tables, vWan, Firewall
- Designing Landing Zone for migrating to Azure native
- Understanding of in-depth application architecture and infrastructure requirements
- Deep Understanding of Networking and security components
- Experience on Azure Migrate Setup and troubleshooting the requirements
- Experience on Migration tools and techniques Azure Migrate, ASR, Database Migration Service
- Workload assessment and dependency mapping
- Lift-and-shift, re-platforming, and re-architecting strategies
- Experience on Operating System troubleshooting Windows, RHEL and other flavors of Linux
- Knowledge of MS SQL and requirements for Migrating databases from OnPrem and AVS to Azure
- Knowledge of NetApp CVO solutions and assessing required
- 10+ years of IT experience with 5+ years in cloud migration (preferably Azure).
- Proven experience in AVS and on-prem to Azure Native migrations.
- Strong understanding of Azure architecture, services, and governance.
- Experience working with banking or financial services clients.
- Designing for regulatory compliance (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA)
- Role-based access control (RBAC), Key Vault, Defender for Cloud etc
- Risk management and mitigation planning
- Agile/Scrum familiarity
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity Planning concepts - RTO/RPO, Geo-redundancy and failover strategies
- Creating runbooks, architecture diagrams, and migration playbooks
- Design and implement Azure infrastructure solutions using IaaS and PaaS components.
- Strong Knowledge on PaaS and containerization technologies Azure App Services, Azure Functions, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure Container Instances (ACI), Azure Logic Apps, Event Grid, Service Bus
- CI/CD integration with Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions
- Knowledge on Palo Alto Networks firewalls configuration and policy management
- Panorama centralized management and log analysis
VPN, NAT, threat prevention, and traffic inspection.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Develop and own the migration roadmap for AVS and on-prem VMs to Azure Native.
- Conduct detailed assessments of existing workloads and dependencies.
- Define migration waves, timelines, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Lead cross-functional teams through migration phases: discovery, design, pilot, execution, and validation.
- Designing Solutions for Migrating Azure AVS workloads and on premises workloads to Azure Native
- Design and implement Azure infrastructure solutions using IaaS and PaaS components.
- Designing Landing Zone for migrating to Azure native
- Ensure seamless transition of workloads with minimal downtime and data integrity.
- Optimize migrated workloads for cost, performance, and scalability in Azure.
- Collaborate with client's infrastructure, application, and security teams.
- Provide regular updates to senior stakeholders and manage escalations.
- Align migration activities with business priorities and compliance requirements.
- Guide teams on Azure Native services including Azure Compute, Networking, Storage, and Security.
- Leverage Migration tools like Azure Migrate for efficient migration.
- Troubleshoot complex migration issues and provide resolution strategies.
- Ensure adherence to banking industry standards and Australian regulatory requirements.
- Implement robust security and monitoring post-migration.
- Design Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity Planning - RTO/RPO, Geo-redundancy and failover strategies
- Design and implement Azure infrastructure solutions using IaaS and PaaS components.
- Modernize legacy applications using Azure App Services, Azure Functions, and containerization (AKS, ACI).
- Define cloud architecture standards, governance models, and best practices.
- Collaborate with application, security, and network teams to ensure seamless migration and integration.
- Troubleshoot and optimize network security using Palo Alto firewalls and centralized management via Panorama.
- Lead storage migration efforts using NetApp Cloud Volumes ONTAP (CVO) from Server migration perspective and coordinate with Client Storage team
- Develop automation scripts using PowerShell, Azure CLI, and Terraform/Bicep for repeatable deployments.
- Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights.
- Ensure compliance with security and regulatory requirements using Azure Policy, Defender for Cloud, and RBAC.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to migration teams and stakeholders.

- Certifications: Azure Solutions Architect Expert or equivalent preferred.
