Greater Adelaide SA, Australia Baptist Care SA Full time $60,000 - $80,000 per year

About the role – Part Time Maximum Term Contract until 30/6/26

The House Parent role at Tumbelin Farm is about creating a safe, welcoming, and home-like environment where young people feel valued and supported. You'll set high expectations, provide social and emotional support, and help establish a positive home culture through shared household responsibilities. This role is about 'doing life with' young people—building strong relationships, modelling positive behaviour, and using restorative practices to foster learning, understanding, and a sense of community.

Shifts: Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights – 4:30pm to 8:30am (We're all about teamwork and balance – take two shifts or go for all three, and we'll make sure everyone's covered and happy.)

Key responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Support the physical, intellectual, emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs of participants in your care, role modelling Baptist Care's Christian values through all aspects of community life.
  • Foster a positive relational environment and facilitate 'family' rituals such mealtimes, celebrations, and evening home life.
  • Creating rosters for household chores, including food shopping, meal preparation, cooking, cleaning, basic house and garden maintenance, pool cleaning and other duties about the home.
  • Establish and sustain positive, healthy relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders.

About you:

You're compassionate, patient, and a natural role model who builds trust and connection. With strong interpersonal and communication skills, you create a structured yet welcoming home environment. You're adaptable, organised, and skilled in conflict resolution, problem-solving, and fostering positive relationships. Your resilience, emotional intelligence, and commitment to restorative practices help young people feel safe, valued, and empowered.

You will also have the following skills and experience:

  • Training – Safe Food Handling or equivalent
  • Training – Youth Mental Health First Aid
  • Experience working with vulnerable and at-risk young people with complex needs within a restorative practice framework
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and their families
