About the Role

We're looking for a Casual Advanced Manufacturing Assistant to support our research and development team in microfabrication and materials analysis.

This is a flexible casual role, ideally 2–3 days per week (approx. 16 hours total), with work scheduled around experimental requirements — typically several hours at a time rather than full-day blocks.

You'll gain practical experience with state-of-the-art fabrication and characterisation tools, working closely with experienced scientists and engineers to support advanced manufacturing processes in a biomedical setting.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform microfabrication processes such as sputtering, DRIE, NIL, and wet processing
  • Conduct materials characterisation using SEM and XPS
  • Maintain accurate experimental records and contribute to R&D projects
  • Collaborate with colleagues to meet project milestones
  • Follow safety and cleanroom protocols at WearOptimo and partner facilities

About You

  • Currently studying or recently completed a degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or Engineering
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent documentation skills
  • Enjoys hands-on laboratory work with precision tools
  • Adaptable and comfortable in a fast-paced research environment
  • Values teamwork, communication, and continuous learning

Desirable

  • Familiarity with microfabrication or semiconductor processes
  • Experience using characterisation tools (SEM, XPS)
  • Previous exposure to cleanroom environments
  • Interest in medical technology or wearable sensors
