Safety Manager

BIH is seeking an experienced and conscientious WHS Officer operating from our Bowen office.

We specialise in providing services to the Mining, Industrial, Commercial and Residential businesses in and around the Bowen Coal Basin and Ports.

At the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, you'll have a great place to work, lifestyle, beaches, fishing, and no traffic lights.  You are just a short drive to Airlie Beach, Mackay, and Townsville but with all the amenities you'll need right here in town.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Timely management of WHS reviews, inspections, and assessments for operations
  • Site visits with reporting, advice and plants to stakeholders and management
  • Proactive adherence to Quality and Safety procedures for all sites
  • Co-ordinate with safety recording, compliance requirements including auditing, documentation, and record-keeping
  • Enforce and improve quality standards and processes
  • Support incident investigation, hazard identification, risk assessment and controls
  • Maintain and enforce zero tolerance to any health and safety breaches
  • Review WHS policies in accordance with legislative updates and communicate these changes to all stakeholders and company personnel
  • Conduct inductions and drug & alcohol testing

Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualification, Certificate IV or Diploma in Workplace Health and Safety
  • Experience in a similar role preferably within the construction and/or mining industry
  • Understanding of Safety and Quality management Systems
  • MS Office
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a multi-business line team
  • Strong communication skills that can build stakeholder relationships
  • Scaffolding, and Abrasive Blasting and Painting experience an advantage
