Havilah Hostel inc is situated in Maryborough Central Victoria. We operate over 3 sites, Harkness Street with 110 residential aged care places and 9 independent living units. Havilah on Palmerston Street with 30 residential care places and 44 independent living units and the newly built Terrace with 24 residential care places. As well as a brand new Facility called Boronia House being completed April 2026 with a further 24 residential places.
Our ideal applicant would have a passion for aged care and a desire to implement best practice guidelines to support the elderly live a happy and healthy life.
To be successful in the role of Domestic Services Worker you will have:
- Current Police Check, or acknowledge that a police clearance will need to be obtained
- Current Flu/Covid Vaccination
- Have a passion for Aged Care
- Have a professional manner and great attitude
- Compliance to OHS and Aged Care legislation
- KITCHEN HAND:
- Must currently have or be willing to obtain the Food Handling Certificate (Level 1).
- Extensive general food service and/or general cleaning experience is required.
- Ability to work with minimal to no supervision is essential.
- Ability to work afternoon and weekend shifts is essential.
- Previous knowledge and/or experience in a home or aged care facility environment is desirable
- Assist in the preparation of meals, which cater for the personal preferences, cultural differences and changing health status of residents.
- Assist in the preparation of meals according to the rotating menu with the cook/chef as required and in accordance with the Food Safety Program.
- Assist in the preparation meals for special events or functions as determined by the Food Services Manager.
- Prepare drinks and special fluids as necessary for individual residents.
- Set tables with consideration for the residents' individual needs and dignity.
- Prepare meal trays as required with consideration for the residents' individual needs and dignity.
- Assist with meal plating ensuring the presentation, quantity and temperature of food is appropriate for the residents' dietary requirements.
- Assist with the delivery of meals and clearing of tables.
- Carry out cleaning duties as per the Duty Roster and the Food Safety Program.
- Exclude unauthorised persons from food preparation areas.
- Practice all food handling procedures in accordance with all Food Handling Legislation and Regulations, and
- Havilah's Food Safety Program
- Demonstrate sound knowledge and work practices in line with Havilah's infection control policies.
- Maintain clean food preparation areas, cooking equipment, food storage areas, cupboards and utensils as detailed in the Food Safety Program.
- Assist with clearing of dining room tables, preparing crockery and cutlery ready for the dishwasher.
- Clear meal trays and prepare cutlery and crockery ready for the dishwasher.
- Ensure all work surfaces are washed, rinsed and sanitised after use.
- Place crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils in relevant areas once used and washed.
- Rotate stock and use supplies according to date received or date produced.
- Observe correct storage and preparation methods as per the Food Safety Program.
- Eliminate unnecessary food waste.
- Deliver meals to the resident, which are attractively presented, at the correct temperature, and the correct amount and consistency for individual needs.
- Update and maintain all documents relating to the food and/or feeding for residents daily.
- CLEANING:
- Carry out daily, weekly, monthly or special cleaning routines as detailed on duty list/chart.
- Maintain the entrance, public areas, and the resident's immediate environment ensuring a clean, odour free and tidy manner at all times.
- Organise daily routines with resident's dignity and privacy in mind.
- Maintain toilets, sinks, showers and bathrooms.
- Ensure carpeted areas and furniture are free from dust, soil, stains, and odours.
- Attend to spills or soiling as soon as they occur whilst wearing appropriate protective clothing.
- Ensure all glass, chrome, and stainless-steel items are free from soils and smears.
- Complete general housekeeping duties; dishes, make beds, dusting etc
- Ventilate cleaned areas where possible during the cleaning process.
- Maintain the hygiene of all cleaning equipment and their storage areas.
- Change mops, cloths and water during cleaning as necessary.
- Ensure all equipment is clean and dry prior to storing.
- Replenish residents supplies as necessary.
- Dispose of rubbish daily as well wash and dry rubbish bins.
- Use stores appropriately and with due consideration for wastage and excessive costs.
- Maintain the contents of the Cleaners Manual and the cleaning schedules.
- Report any issues to Food Services Manager as soon as one is identified.
- Demonstrate respect and sensitivity regarding wishes of residents.
- Recommend and initiate innovations with work practices.
- Demonstrate concern for completing tasks by end of the shift.
- Act as a resource person sharing current information.
- Comply with rules and policies of Havilah and the staff appraisal process.
- Accept positive criticism.
- Be aware of legal responsibilities of the job.
- Be responsible for reporting on time, notifying of sick leave, wearing appropriate attire as per the DressCode Policy.
